I hate to be the conspiracy theorist, but why is U6 getting so much time?

Bug fixing is a thankless task, from a commercial point of view, so I can appreciate why in previous sessions, bug fixing was restricted to a "week" long battle. U6 will have to have a time limit put on it and I imagine that's coming soon, but as far as I can see, the community could report bugs until the sun burns out.

So, my theories are:
1. DBP development is going to take a back seat for a while (c 6-12 months)
2. For some reason, it's suddenly important to TGC to give the product a reputation for stability by nailing every single last bug.

I think no.1 is probably the puppy. They have more product ideas lined up maybe - adds-on for DBP I reckon, such as the physics plugins etc. and they really need a solid base to apply them to.

As Lee has stated the aim is simply to 'finish' DBPro. Which means a complete feature freeze to the core program, and keep fixing bugs until you can't report any more, which is what is happening.

The current extensions being created for DBPro are going on at the moment, in tandem with U6, and are not dependant on it. But once U6 is out Lee can spend time looking at, and implementing, more 'next (or even current!) gen' technologies via add-ons. Plus of course no-one can ignore the pending Vista.

Sounds fair enough to me. However, as Columbo might say - just one more thing.

(Yes - I've slightly edited your quote there, for ease of comparison.)

So essentially, you are saying that DBP has reached a point in feature-richness whereby anything extra you guys release should be treated as icing on the cake?

That sounds pajorative, which isn't intended... but it's the first way I thought of phrasing it.

Pretty much, yes. There will be no more additions or significant core changes, just fixes. All future functionality will be via extensions (either free or charged for, depending on their content).

Its a time of consolidation.

I'm still very curious about what Lee was doing when he was playing all those playstation and other games prior to Christmas. There was some talk then of a hush hush secret project, although there is equally some suspicion that he was just having some down time.
