Finally I'm managing to upgrade my athlon xp2400 (768mb) to a newer model...I've got on order a p4, 3ghz with 512mb ddr2, 80gb hd, ati300 gfx on board, dvd rewriter etc.....
Should be a lot more fun than the athlon as it seemed to get a bit distressed playing some games (and writing tunes live with more than 6 processor consuming vst effects)....(and the new one's in a trendy black, red, and neon case as well, LOL)

Should do well for my son though, as he likes to play 2d platformers hehehe ;o)

I have 256Mb of memory and play 1GB minimum requirement games with no problems. WHY you would need that much I'll never know.

Because everything starts up faster? Apps switch quicker. There is less crunching of your hard drive as Windows swaps out, faster operation of heavy-weight apps like Photoshop (which I use daily), etc. Windows itself will suck up the majority of that physical ram. My pity goes to whatever has to run in whats left.

My physical memory usage when playing Call of Duty II is 116MB/256MB. Virtual Memory 8MB in use.
