I thought I'd seek comments on an intermittent annoyance I have been suffering with MS Outlook.

I've got Norton Internet security running. Usually when I load Outlook a pop up window asking me to permit ccApp.exe appears. I click yes to this as a matter of course.

Sometimes this pop up box doesn't appear. When this happens I can't send and receive emails. I get an error message in the send/receive box saying that the mail server cannot be contacted.

Thoughts about how I get rid of this?

Phil

Don't use antivirus or firewalls. Most "Alerts" are made up by them.

Yes. That would be a clever thing. Never ever use anything to keep your computer safe. Infact I would also suggest you throw your computer in a pond.

I'm going to try sticking my fingers into the mains switch as well because I feel I need more energy really.

No, honestly! With Norton I used to get virus warnings all the time. Without it, I have not had a virus in 3 years and my files are perfectly intact.

Until one day a timed virus is activated or the person who is looking through your c: with a trojan decides its time to shut you down.

I belive you could stop the error by going to options nortons antivirus internet\emails and uncheck everything however then your not checking your mail. Another thing you could look at is personal firewall config programs and add the exe into the manual control list and select permit always this should hold and not prompt you again allowing the exe to run (however from selecting allow program from the popup should have added it to the list already).

ccapp.exe is a process belonging to Norton AntiVirus. It is responsible for the auto-protect and email checking facilities, both of which will not function correctly if this service is stopped. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: ccapp.exe is also a process belonging to the media.fastclick adware which creates advertising popups on your computer and sends Internet usage information back to it's company's servers. This is a registered security risk and should be terminated immediatly.

To be honest, it may solve a lot of problems if NAV is just uninstalled, and something else/better replaces it.

I use outlook all the time, and have McAfee security center installed - they both seem to work well together, and I find it doesn't slow your computer down as much as Norton, which I used to have.

One time I got a warning from mcafee because I kept on sending emails out with the same subject line...it thought it was a worm doing it.

Hello,

I had similar problems whith Norton. I did reinstall, but the problems continued. So I got tired of Norton, bought NOD32 and I'm happy whith my choice.

Have a nice day,

I just turn on MS built-in firewall on my internet connection,
and get rid of Norten security. These days, you must have some
kind of firewall, even on dialup...

Like many others I have also encountered problems when using Norton and decided to switch to NOD32. I find it much less intrusive than Norton and it appears to take up far fewer resources and it is a cheap option. You can find out more about it from here [href]www.nod32uk.com[/href]
