Hello all, I have recently come back to these forums to try and answer the question about Treemagik G2 trees: "Why won't they work!?!?"

So, the best way to do this I've decided would be to have a contest to see who can fix this issue, and come up with a way to get the trees working properly. If you are not familiar with what has been going on with the tree pack, then here is a brief summary of what the problem is:

The Issue:
When I submited a tree pack made useing Treemagik G2 to the FPSC forums fo the free use of everyone, someone (and I forget exactly who) discovered that if you actually build the final game (the .EXE file) and run it, the tree's textures do not work properly. Many people have tried to fix this issue in the past , and some (Ultraplex And Templar1 for example) says they have gotten it to work properly, but it still won't work on my computer. And if I was to ever sell some tree packs, I would at least want it to work on my computer
There are a few topics that have theories on how to fix this issue, but they havn't been very succesful, so the goal of this contest is, as you know, to get this all sorted out. Need some ideas of where to start? Here's some topics that discuss this problem, I recommend you take a look at them so you can see what has been tried:

Resources:
Though I don't know them all, here is several topics that discuss the tree pack issue:
1. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=72105&b=21
2. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=71789&b=21
3. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=68794&b=24
4. http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=72764&b=24

And here's the rules:

Rules:

1. Teams of users are NOT illegal, in fact, they are incouraged!
2. The trees given to the user to fix MUST be workable on at least five (5) peoples computers (including Sunflash's)
3. The first person to psot with a WORKING download link with a .EXE compiled by FPSC that works properly wins
4. Cheaters never prosper, so don't try
5. If someone who works for TGC (even if it's a small job, besides beta testing) then I will give the prize to everyone if the winner so whishes. If not, then the winner will get a bonus prize of five trees.
6. If Lee Bamber, or anyone else related to him wins, in addition to winning the prize, I will make an extra pack of 10 trees for everyone!
7. If TGC makes an update for FPSC that allows multiple textures to be used, then I will make a treepack of 15 trees for everyone! There is NO time limit for this to be completed!
8. Sunflash retains the right to add rules while the competition is in progress
9. Cheaters caught violating these rules, and all others made by Sunflash, will be banned from this contest.
10. Be polite, you might get a free tree if your helpful
11. Rewriting the FPSC engine is NOT allowed, but still incouraged OUTSIDE of the contest
12. Contest starts NOW, an ends at the end of April!
13. Winner will also be decided by how easy the process is to get the tree pack working.
14. A tree will be included as a RAR file, this is the tree you must work with.
15. Along with the download link to the .exe file, you must also include the texture files, and .fpe files. These will be needed to determine just "how" you won the contest if you do win.
16. The goal of this contest is to get the textures created by Treemagik G2 to work properly with the tree, so, if you end up editing the textures, remapping them to the model, or things like that, then it must be able to be done useing a freeware program so that the judge(s) can attain the same results as the (hopefully) winner.
17. Sunflash IS the judge
18. Sunflash retains the right to add/disband future judges

And now, for the long awaited list of prizes:

Prizes:

1. 1st Place Winner receives a tree pack of 25 new trees!
2. All Runerups (thats people that come up with different solutions) will receive a pack of 10 trees (some of the trees from the 1st place winners pack).

I hope this encourages people to enter, I would really like to get this issue solved, and the entire issue of ultiple textures on an entity solved for that matter, but I don't think this will be possible unless there is a big enough effort
So hurry up and look into this!
-Sunflash T. Mace

Hmm...
Tree Packs do not seem very fitting a prize for such a hard, annoying and difficult to solve issue...

You need to make it a Static object. I mean, when you think of it, you really don't need a dynamic tree... Unless it's supposed to be obviously fake.

Make your own textures and use an FPE to point to those textures?
The trees may not look as realistic but at least they work.
Here's a pic:

Ok, there have been three new rules added, so please look them up (16, 17, and 18)

@I Has Returned,
In compliance to one of the new rules, could you give me the .FPE and texture file(s) used for your entry?

Sure.Like I said,it isn't the prettiest tree in the world but it works.I modified the original FPE from the origianl tree pack.
Here's the FPE:

And here's the texture.

Sorry about it being a .bmp file but if you run the .exe you can see it works and it would probably work just as well as a .tga,.jpg or .dds but I haven't gotten around to changing it yet.Someone who could do a better job in texturing could make the tree look better.I just specified my texture file in the FPE.
I don't expect to win the contest with this sorry looking tree I just figured I would make an example of how the tree could be fixed. That is why I made it a zip file instead of using FPSPack. Then anyone could download it,unzip it and see what I did.I hope this helps.I used RapidShare because I can upload my files on it quickly. For some reason my Filefront takes forever and the files don't upload half the time.

Somebody has to make a better tree than me.They can take the FPE I posted and the UV map I posted and get the model out of Sunflash's original tree pack.
I am sure someone can do a better texturing job than me.
I noticed that trees made with treemagic tend not to specify textures in the FPE file.
Someone else just uploaded a treepack with the same problem.
You might ask Dodic. His trees work but I don't know how he did it.
They look a lot better than mine does...lol.

I am retracting from the comp. How in the hell do you not have the rules set in stone before the comp starts? anyways think out your comp next time.
