Assuming you're running windows, run "sndvol32" and under "options", click "properties". Select the "Recording" Radio button and opt to show all the controls (tick all the boxes). On my sound card, you can tick "Wave" which would get you what you wanted.

To actually record the sounds, you could use sndrec32 or if you want to go a little bit more upmarket - Audacity. Hit the big red circle in either of those and you should get a recording of exactly what came out of the wave device.

I would also strongly suggest Audacity. The program works great.

You can select any of these inputs to record from (more or less will be available depending on your sound chip):

I wasn't aware you could use a mic to record something on the screen

He just explained to you exactly what you want. If you don't have a control for "Wave" then your sound card is unable to make a recording from the output. There's no NEED to gET HUFFY. There is a program I've heard of that is freeware that will do just that but I can't remember the name of it right now. It was on the screensavers a couple of years ago.

Let's review:
Quote: "Assuming you're running windows, run "sndvol32" and under "options", click "properties". Select the "Recording" Radio button and opt to show all the controls (tick all the boxes). On my sound card, you can tick "Wave" which would get you what you wanted.

STEP 1: Click Start/Run, type sndvol32 and press enter (or click button)
STEP 2: Click Options/Properties, select Recording, and select all the boxes. Click OK and you will see a "Recording Control" window. Click the source you want to use for recording, you want to select WAVE.
STEP 3: Click Start/Run, type sndrec32 and press enter (or click button) Alternately, you can use most any other sound recording software such as Cool Edit or Audacity.
STEP 4: Press Record, start the flash movie, when it's over, hit stop (on the recorder, not the flash movie)
STEP 5: Press File/Save and save the file.
STEP 6: Use your imagination.

@ADGamer

Short of coming round to your house and actually showing you what you do (after punching you in the face, naturally) we've really held your hand through this process.

Use a combination of SirFire's image, and what I said to acheive what you want. Look at his picture. See the Microphone checkbox? Well, you don't want that, so tick the Wave checkbox.

If you can't load sndvol32 manually, then use the control panel method to get to it.

1. Click 'start' button, select 'settings' and then 'control panel'
2. Go into 'Sounds and audio devices'
3. You should be on 'volume' tab and in middle of screen is a big 'advanced' button. Click on it and you get the dialog boxes as discussed earlier.

Yes I see that.. but I don't see it in my Windows folder.. maybe its just in another directory. It's kinda annoying not being able to run things off the command prompt like I used to with my last PC.

EDIT: Lo and behold, it is indeed in the system32 folder, but my run doesn't go there by default.. any idea how to make it run off of the system32 folder before I hit the Google?

You need to make sure that %SystemRoot%\system32 is within 'Path' environmental variable.

In control panel, system. go to 'advanced' tab, and then go into environment variables. In bottom box should be list of all variables, one of them is called 'Path'. It has all the default paths in it that run will cylce through to find a command.

WARNING! Messing about with envornment variables could knacker your pc, so be VERY careful.

For example, my 'Path' has all sorts of rubbish in it that programs tag on;

C:\Perl\bin\;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared;C:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN;C:\PROGRA~1\NcFTP

If it IS in there, then maybe your %systemroot% is faulty. To see what it is, goto a command prompt and type;

echo %systemroot%

it should come back with C:\Windows in most installations.

Hope that helps.
