There is no General Chat.

Is this the same one as posted on the BB forums, where you either have to endure a Microsoft lecture or join a student club or something.

Either way, there is a better way of getting VS 2005 - just download the free version from Microsoft - if they still do it.

Either way, we aren't supplying dodgy software, are we ?

Just thought you would like to know, for thoes who would like it.
I downloaded three webcasts, so I think I qualify for the freebie.
By the way, I have VS2005 pro at work, so I just want one for home.

There are various recordings of Microsoft employees blabbering on about some boring topic.

It is exactly what I said it was earlier (the BB post was by Red October) - and is for USA/Canadian persons only.

By the address, perhaps ? The words England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland may give the game away...

Hey that actually looks like a pretty fair trade. And according to the VS.NET Express website the express versions expire after a year, and it would be nice to get the Standard version.

I understood that if you downloaded the express versions before Nov. 2006, they would be free for you forever.

Edit: Yep, free forever if you download it before Nov. 7, 2006. From the MSDN FAQ:
Quote: "
Do customers who acquire the Visual Studio Express products during the free promotional pricing period have to pay after the first year if they want to continue to use them?

No, as long as you download Visual Studio Express on or before November 7th 2006, you will not have to pay for it.

I understand the same thing as hyrichter.

Download by that date. It does not expire.

Wow, I don’t believe it, I just got my copy of VS 2005 Std, in the mail, with a book called Moving to Microsoft ASP.Net 2.0 and a Security resource CD. I am gob smacked, never expected that to happen.
Maybe there is a God.

Anyone else out there get a copy?

Still waiting for mine. Hopefully it will come today

What version of Visual Studio is it? Is it C#, C++, VB, or all of the above?

All the above, by the looks of it, the case contains 5 disks, three are the MSDN Library disks, and the first 2 is VS 2005.

Ok, I poped a disk into the drive, and typed the Product key, and it offers the following:
Visual Web Developer
VB.Net
C++.Net
C#.Net
J#.Net
My SQL express 2005
Smart device Programmabillity (PDA's,Smartphone)
If you leave them all checked, it say's it requires 3GB of disk space.

I can't think of any home uses for this application. It seems to be totally business orientated. What do you guys use it for?

Visual Studio 2005 is perhaps the best IDE and solution out there for serious programmers, so it is very handy IMHO.
