I was just laying around watching Charmed (yea yea, shutup) and thought of an odd scenerio. If someone could tell you the exact day you'll die and how, would you want to know?

I'd have to say no. This is one instance where ignorance really is bliss.

But what if they say you die on March 15, 2020 in a car accident, so on that date you just stay home?

its kind of like that moment in the matrix where neo is told by the oracle to not knock over the vase, he says what vase, turns round and knocks it off then the oracle says something like "know your thinking would you have knocked it off if i hadn't of told you?"

its a bit of an odd scenario, cause it would be interesting to know how you would die, but if you knew how you would die then you would be always avoiding using whatever is going to kill you - like the car bit mentioned earlier

i would like to know how i would die, but then i dont think i could be trusted with it, as i would try to avoid it

i dont think you can avoid deing. (or however its spelled :S)

if you were told you would die at noon tomorrow at the bus stop, you wouldn't go to the bus stop, but you would still die from another reason, because you were meant to die at that point.

thats what i think anyhow.

I don't really believe you would be told "how" you would die. If anything, they would just say (whoever "they" is) that you would day on this day, and I doubt there's anything you could do.

No, definitely not. It would just make me apprehensive, and not make me any happier. Unless of course it said I would die from being to happy, or that I was already dead and was just dreaming away on a life support machine...

If you could know exactly how and when you where going to die then you could probably avoid by steering clear of the place and objects that would result in you death, but yes it would be pointless since you would just die another day a different way since death is inevitable.

I have seen examples of this in life or at least what i perceive as examples, for instance my grandmother had a heart attack died and was shocked back to life at the hospital. Well 3 months later she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died 5 months after that it makes you think was she supposed to die with the heart attack and cheated death for a mere 8 months. I honestly think to die from the heart attack would have been better for her and for them to just let her be since she suffered going through the cancer till the end.

It could happen. Don't get me started on the neighbors car that parked in my dad's room while I was at work. He's normally home sleeping at the time it happened, but went to the store that morning.

I might not mind knowing when, so I can make the most of whats left. It would probably put your life into perspective when you realize your gonna die soon. I don't know that I'd want to know how though, that way I wouldn't run in fear and try to avoid it for the rest of my life.

We will never know when Or death will come, but it will come. Someone might say you are going to die in one month time but what if something happens before that? Murder, suicide, cars coming through your house electric shock from a toaster? Any of these could happen. And even if you did know how and when you were going to die, and even if you did avoid it, death would get you back very soon. Personally I would never like to know when I am going to 'kick the bucket' I would prefer the 'thief in the night' scenario.

But thats just me, little me amongst billions of other people!

We are all going to die 13 seconds before Linux becomes the main OS to use, Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX are released to finally redeem the franchise, Jesus comes down to give the answer to the purpose of life and allows everyone to go into heaven, and a pig which has had wings for 7 years prior learns to use them for flight.

I recall this Science Fiction story where this guy invents a method of detecting the duration of a organism, he explains it as the body forming a tube through time as it exists, and at birth or death he could detect the kinks in the tube that stopped him measuring the whole history/future of the person and hence could tell people when they where born and when they would die, since he could only tell them when and not how, it was impossible to avoid death.

the story had a lot of releated plots about twists in knowing your exact death (trickery with wills and people trying to dodge death where two), in the end he gets a visit from a young couple who just want to know if they will die together since they couldn`t bear to be parted, he assures them they will be together at the end and they leave his office, then he watches from the window as they are killed crossing the road and getting caught up in a traffic accident, then the story ends as he destroys the machine, I tell it badly, but it wasn`t a bad story (Robert Heinlein iirc)

PS: knowing my luck I will die the day before they invent eternal youth Immortality serum (doctor in old folks home "right! lets try this on patient 35...oh! he died yesterday, well! patient 36 then")

I read that sentence, then I took a moment to think about it. That's not something I actually fear, I'm more afraid of having bad hair or not setting my alarm correctly. Or perhaps worse, bad spelling.

There are plenty of realistic things to fear in this world, like pedophiles or bad drivers. Things like that are far more likely to happen than some fantastic, global, zombie creating event.

its also the paradox of mankind. mankind seems destined to find out how it's going to be wiped out and when, whether it be a meteor, alien invasion, act of God etc, but when it comes to how and when death will happen to each of us individually, people seem to not want to know.

i myself am very cautious of death, i dont believe in fate or destiny. but i do my best to live every day as if it's my last, yet use every day as an investment for future days to come, as if i was going to live forever.

I fear absolutely nothing. Aside from human fears like if I see a bus heading straight for me I'll jump out of the way, as that's out of my control. But no single way of dying scares me... at all. I just hope that when I die it's in my sleep or something instant--- like a grenade in my pants.

I don't fear anything for myself. I've had a gun to my head before. That shows you a lot about yourself. Before that, I'd always wondered how I would act when it came right down to it .

I deeply fear things happening to my children. Sometimes, I imagine worse case scenarios, and I get crazy thinking about it. I pity the fool...
