Hi

Firstly, my 17th birthday today. Wow! Driving lessons, finally.

Anybody done the Young Enterprise scheme at all? Basically a bunch of sixth formers get together and form a company - at the end we have to do a report / presentation etc. There are several big awards presented at the Final Presentation Evening.

Said evening was today. It was held at a rather posh venue, with free food etc. Our company was there, and we swept the awards!

We won

best presentation
best company report
best business plan
best company (which means we go on to the next round).

The report was my baby so I get the trophy for now. Anyway, must be off. Anybody else done YE before though?

Me and birthdays don't mix very well. I forget em, even when reminded several minutes before I forget em.

Happy BD David.

Hey Happy Birthday,
possibly instead of everyone posting when it is their birthday, but one stickied thread by a mod that people post when their birthday is.
Just a thought.

I always thought you were in your 40's or 50's due to that Star Wars thing. Arr.

Why would they make you a mod Darth? - you give Rich a kidney or something?

Happy B-day David, and congrats on owning everyone in the YE awards .

Happy Birthday

Young Enterprise is a scheme in school to encourage the people in the oldest year at secondary school to learn what it takes to start a business. They get advice, encouraged to seek capital, make a product/service and generally do everything by the book. Then there's a gathering of lots of the Young Enterprise companies from a region to see what team did the 'best'.
So, double congrats David T!

Thanks everybody!

Yes, I suppose I do appear older than I am. I've never really mentioned it much. Its quite cool, having a product being sold when you're still at school! (helps with university too...)

Happy Birthday!

I've always pictured you in your mid 20's. That's excellent that you're only 17 and have a successful product being sold. You're paving the way for a great future, and most likely you will retire early like you wanted.

Hehe I did Young Enterprise...though I did it when I was in year 11. We didn't do too badly - made a profit at any rate. Were beaten in the regional contest though. We've got loads of private schools around where I live....kids there were getting stock from their rich relatives at low prices and selling them over here lol

As well as when I was 16/17 I did it when I was 14 too. Except we failed miserably.

We are from a private school. Although we don't have rich relatives, and didn't buy stock in at rock bottom prices

Happy Birthday!

I do Young Enterprise... We're doing quite well Not as well as I'd like, but the company is sort-of disorganised.. heh. Still better than the other one at my school. It's still going here, we have a presentation to do on this coming Thursday, and then I think that's all the judging done, unless we get through or something. We're not quite Sixth form though, heh. Our company report was neat though!

Happy birthday! 17/18 are great ages because you've got your whole life ahead of you. Get great A-Levels, go to Uni, have a good time but get a great degree, and you'll be set up for the rest of your life.

As for YE, I was part of a company back in 1991. We came out top in our year despite the fact that half of the people in it were dufuses.

I did the Australian version of YE (called Young Achievement Australia) a few years ago back when I was your age. We didn't do too well, me and one of my mates had the excellent idea of producing brand name bouncy balls or yo-yo's and reintroducing them to primary/elementary schools, we planned to give them out free to the popular kids and then sell them to everyone else - it was a foolproof plan. But alas, the rest of our group weren't so like-minded and didn't like the 'immoral nature' of our business plan (I still don't see what's so wrong about exploiting little kids!).

We ended up signing a few local bands and producing a CD, however, it's very hard to market a CD full of bands most people have never heard of. We still made a profit though, despite losing half our company (including the MD) - I think most groups started with over 20 people, we ended up with 7.
