Is it any good?

It's on later tonight (well, early morning actually but I seem to turn nocturnal come weekends) and I was wondering whether or not to bother watching it.

I'm actually pretty chuffed because I had the DVD in my hand yesterday and was only stopped from buying it when I decided I'd rather go home knowing that I had the money to spend on something else. The exact same thing happened with the Enemy at the Gates DVD. Maybe if I do the same with the original Planet of the Apes box set they'll show that on tv aswell.

Channel 4, 2:45am for anyone that wants to know.

I saw it a few years ago. It's a decent movie but I wouldn't own it... it's one of those "if it's on and there's nothing else to watch" deals, for me anyway.

I own it, but only because it was $3. It's a decent low-budget indie film, though the plot is kind of thin, and the unnecessarily-weird-indie-ness is pretty thick.

Well, I watched it.

To begin with I had a feeling of 'wtf', quickly followed by 'Okay, so it's more of an interesting film than an entertaining film. Then it all finished just as I thought 'okay, now it's getting good.'

I liked the idea of the computer program allowing the computer to become aware of itself.

I read it was financed on a credit card, whether that's true or not I don't know.

It sounded interesting, maybe the same idea should be re-directed.

That's the problem though, as an 'interesting' film that made you think about what was happening it worked. I get the feeling anybody that re-made it would want to make it more 'entertaining' with guns, explosions, hakerz and the like.

It could be a good film if re-made, but it'd probably be a flop (a film about pi doesn't grab most people).

Well, it seems to me that you were expecting something else, and whatever it was that you were expecting the film to be, you seemed a bit dissapointed, so if you can figure out what you were expecting, you can remake the film into the film that you were expecting to see. So the film can be improved, and I don't think you were expecting guns, and explosions, so the film can be improved in a suitable fasion.

I personaly liked it. And yeah sticking in hackers, explosions and such would ruin it completly. I think it managed to be very entertaining for what was technically a movie about a number.

I was expecting exploding pies.

But yes, the film wasn't what I expected, but to be honest I couldn't tell you what I was expecting.

I didn't stay up to watch the film, and I usually only record channels that have no ads, because I pause out ads when I am awake. I read the TV guide, it said....

Quote: "This unsettling and intruiging film is a low-budget, black and white thriller with a twist. It's the story of a socially inept mathematical genius who has locked himself away in his room and designed a supercomputer which, he claims, has the potential to answer any question mankind can throw at it."

Now that seems to disregard Pi. A computer locked away in a room that can answer any question, with a strange person inside. I imagine a letterbox with questions, and answers being pushed through. Little bony fingers sticking the notes outside, a bit like gollum hands. Shuffling noises, and you wouldn't see the strange person for a long time. A media frenzy outside the door, people trying to interview the letterbox, and pushing food inside for favours of knowledge. questions about Jack The Ripper, people studying the evidence, finding unknown evidence along the way. Scientists building amazing machines, and as the film goes on, it becomes crucial to knock the door down. Then when the door is finally opened, the is no one inside the room, and no computer.

I mean, that is an example of one way the film could go. I don't expect this particular film to take that approach, because it would be better rated IMO.

What a crap explanation of the film (the TV guides one) I guess they thought it would pull more viewers than "Man uses supercomputer to study the stock market in an attempt to proove that the golden number phe is interconnected into all of life's principles even our behaviour"
Ah well.
