Why do people start saying that people who join this kind of teams are usually the worst coders? Why can't noone really support someone with an idea, or at least, if they don't, NOT discourage these people? I mean, I know that it is well-ment advice and stuff. I know you are trying to make them understand. But try to let them make the same errors everyone makes at start. Practice and experience are the best teachers.
I've said once and I'll say again: Leave them. I'm a beginning programmer, I'm even tripping over a camera routine at the moment! But I'll hang on. And one day, I'll try and create something big. Now, is that enough to tell me I'm a terrible coder? That I can't program?
I'm really sorry but this forum seems very harsh on new members, or those gathering teams while not having anything except a story. You START with an idea, and if you can't code, can't model or can't map, but you do have a nice idea: why can't we help out? We are a community after all!
Now, probably I'll be a socialist and whatever else, but I just think that a game needs an idea, which is worked out and then shared (with/without payment). As you see, the idea imho is 33%: it's very hard to come up with good idea's. The working out, although it is much more work - is the part where we need coders, modellers, artists, musicians, mappers ect. Nearly noone is all of this. everyone needs help sometimes.
"I wouldn't like to start on something so big that I'll need help, only to find out noone is wanting to help me". I respect people with this opinion, and I think the global reaction on people on this kind of post, how annoying they may find it, should change. Leave people have irrealistic hopes. Let them dream. In the end, it's the dreamers that create the best stuff.
And no, I'm not implying that realistic people can't create good stuff. They have goals that they CAN reach. They push their limits to the farrest. Dreamers go and try and fail and fail again but in the end succeed. That is, if others don't discourage them from continuing.
Just something I noticed out here. It's not like other forums I've been. It has a sort of rivalilty between new and experienced. Shouldn't those two help eachother? But probably, it's just me being new.
I'm afraid Eray that I won't be able to help myself. I'm involved in 2 projects and not certain about joining a 3rd team as artist. I do CGI in mostly space. My modelling ain't so very strong I must admit, but thank god space is so empty

.
But I wish ya all of luck. The idea sounds feasible. Hope you gather a nice, reasonable team and if you need something just continue posting it in THIS thread. We don't want to clutter the forum with stuff.
If you ever get to finish it, I'll definetly check it out
