Hello all,
As you may or may not know i own a website called [href]www.kinggamers.co.uk[/href] im going to be using this website to produce games and this website will give people a place to learn about them and download them. But already I have hit a wall, the coding barrier i like to call my brain. And then i had another idea why dont i put togther a team of mappers and coders and modlers and maybe even a sound artist, i have so many great ideas but lack the knowledge of coding. So this is where you the reader can become involved, you will be part of a development team called "King Gamers"

So first we need coders, maybe two. Coders to code in dark basic or DBP to make my gaming dreams come alive.

Secondly we need modlers, Modlers to consturct the many objects and player characters for use in the game.

Thirdly we need mappers, Mappers to mold the very world the player will be using.

And maybe Sound artists to make the games come alive with music and sounds.

Well thats pretty much it, so if your reading this and you have some spare time and some skill just post below or add [email protected] to your msn contact list.

Please to be replying soon (sorry for the spelling and grammer)

Hey,
Ok let me post here what will be for the team, a first project.

I call it Scorched Skies

I been working on it not long now and have realised that I just can’t continue because of my lack of skill and knowledge. So let me tell you a bit more about this game such as the story line and the things I have done and the to-do list.

Story line

Far off in skies red with flame live mysterious creatures of flight and fire, these creatures swoop in and out the mountain range. Their lives are a constant fight for survival and they need to be sharp so they don’t fall to the mountain floor and become lunch. This is where you come in, you are a fearless tamer of the beast of your kingdom but now you have a new adventure ahead of you, one of speeds that make the very core of your being shake, one of flame that boils not only the blood and one of friendship with your new creature 'n' all the other tamers that fly around the mountain.

What I Have Already Done

Ill be honest with you I have not done allot, you guys could probably do this with your eyes closed but I haven’t spent to long on it.
I have:
A dragon shape block for the player
A rocky surface
A good solid flying system
A good plan of what I want
A intro picture splash

To Do List

things that need to be done are:

* A model to replace the old block (a dragon with a man sitting on it)
* A proper map to replace the flat land we have now (caves and big mountain tops, ledges and all)
* A main title page to use for new game, loading, options and (maybe) multiplayer
* Enemies to shot down out of the sky (giant birds and weird things)
* left click to make a roaring fire ball come out of player’s mouth
*(maybe) Multiplayer functions so that players can fly all around shooting each over with fire and chatting all at the same time
* Dieing function (for death)
* A solid collision system (mine doesn’t work)
* Background music (fast tempo)
* Sounds i.e fireball, animal shouts

As you can see there is allot to do and the to-do list out ways the done list but that’s only because i have big plans.

So if you guys are still interested i can show you the code and you can tell me what u can do in your spare time, and then we can put it on the website for people to download and play and ENJOY

Ok then guys post back really soon and please save your flame.

I'd like to join your team as a coder, I'm very experienced in programming DarkBASIC. I'd make my own games but I have weak art skills, and well game design ideas. This seems like the kind of team I want to be a part of.

Skills In: Visual Basic, Dark Basic, Pascal, Visual C++, Learning 6502 Assembly.

I'd be able to code for an hour a day.

If you accept please reply soon.

I'm not super experienced with VC++, VB, or Pascal but getting to know them swell. I will need some media to work with.

No problem, I cannot program multiplayer my version don't support it. But the rest I'm sure I can do! (Code-wise)

Ok then, wow erm

I think i would like you to start with the Matrix and colision and then move on to dieing and hiting the ground which sort of ties in with colision, And then move on to the left click fire ball(can just be an orange ball) that shoots out of the mouth.

Once youve got all that sorted will give it a lil test and then see if we cant get the ai all down, and the menu and so on.

About media ill find...someone to do it im sure, Hint Hint anyone who can help with models and maps!!

Ok is there any way i can get this file to you ? with all the media and code init ?

I'll do the matrix map and coding tonight. I'll try and get the bullet and (some) collision stuff later. I have a low tech dragon model to work with. I'll try to get all this done by this week!

People tend to forget that the worse coders are the ones that decide to join teams like this... which means you will get nowhere...

And just some advide for personal experience - if you set up a team like this (especially if you hardly know the people) you will very likely end up getting let down, or development will just suddenly stop. It's hard to make a game with a whole team - but! if you want any advice about keeping the team, you will need to get someone to compile all the code and media - someone experienced.

Why do people start saying that people who join this kind of teams are usually the worst coders? Why can't noone really support someone with an idea, or at least, if they don't, NOT discourage these people? I mean, I know that it is well-ment advice and stuff. I know you are trying to make them understand. But try to let them make the same errors everyone makes at start. Practice and experience are the best teachers.

I've said once and I'll say again: Leave them. I'm a beginning programmer, I'm even tripping over a camera routine at the moment! But I'll hang on. And one day, I'll try and create something big. Now, is that enough to tell me I'm a terrible coder? That I can't program?

I'm really sorry but this forum seems very harsh on new members, or those gathering teams while not having anything except a story. You START with an idea, and if you can't code, can't model or can't map, but you do have a nice idea: why can't we help out? We are a community after all!

Now, probably I'll be a socialist and whatever else, but I just think that a game needs an idea, which is worked out and then shared (with/without payment). As you see, the idea imho is 33%: it's very hard to come up with good idea's. The working out, although it is much more work - is the part where we need coders, modellers, artists, musicians, mappers ect. Nearly noone is all of this. everyone needs help sometimes.

"I wouldn't like to start on something so big that I'll need help, only to find out noone is wanting to help me". I respect people with this opinion, and I think the global reaction on people on this kind of post, how annoying they may find it, should change. Leave people have irrealistic hopes. Let them dream. In the end, it's the dreamers that create the best stuff.

And no, I'm not implying that realistic people can't create good stuff. They have goals that they CAN reach. They push their limits to the farrest. Dreamers go and try and fail and fail again but in the end succeed. That is, if others don't discourage them from continuing.

Just something I noticed out here. It's not like other forums I've been. It has a sort of rivalilty between new and experienced. Shouldn't those two help eachother? But probably, it's just me being new.

I'm afraid Eray that I won't be able to help myself. I'm involved in 2 projects and not certain about joining a 3rd team as artist. I do CGI in mostly space. My modelling ain't so very strong I must admit, but thank god space is so empty .

But I wish ya all of luck. The idea sounds feasible. Hope you gather a nice, reasonable team and if you need something just continue posting it in THIS thread. We don't want to clutter the forum with stuff.

If you ever get to finish it, I'll definetly check it out

Eray, your site is terrible. There is no original content. This seems like every other team request in history - someone with a neat idea, but lacks the skills to make it happen. You're asking for everything - modeling, programming, sound. All you have is the web site, which isn't much.

People who have legitimate skills are working on their own things. It would take some seriously clever advertising on your part to change their focus. I've not considered for a single moment working on this project, though I read through your information and looked at your site.

Eventually, I'm going to post a team request. However, my game engine will be 90% done before I do that. I'll have a playable demo released also. At that point, it's a guarantee that it will be released. People will join simply to be associated with a successful product. There is absolutely no guarantee for time invested into your project.

Good luck with it. I hope that your team works to completion. I warn you though - as team leader, you must possess either the greatest skills or the total financing. I'm guessing that you're unable to finance a game, so skills are all that's left.

Well, not really - they may come up with the best ideas, and I must admit, I suck at coming up with good ideas for games whether I am a good programmer or not, but as for making the actual games is a completely different matter, and sometimes you just have to be patient, and save that idea till a later time when you can actually make the game...

Quote: "Shouldn't those two help eachother?"

I was trying to help, I just tried my best to make it clear how hard it is.. maybe I was a bit harsh.

Like everyone, I used to suck at programming, and I would start up team requests like this, and I would join teams like this, and they all ended up failures - basically my point is, you will get along much faster if you sit and make your own games - if you start a huge project like this you end up in a jumble, if you don't know one little detail about how to make it, the project could just drop.

If you need any more advice for actually keeping this team, here it is:
Star your own personal side projects, something that starts of *very* simple, like pong (I know, no newcomers like the sound of that), you can learn a whole lot more from making a pong game in 2 hours that you could mucking around and trying to make a large game in 2 months - it has many simple principles that you could learn from, crammed in such a small, simple game, it's like magic.. then, as for taking it further, you can practice your skills you learned from that pong game and put them into the pong game too, make 5 balls fly around, how abut two enemies, or five walls instead of four? In short words, pong has the principles, the ideas and fun of the game comes from the mind. Once you can make a pong game in your sleep, then you can start to make your big flashy game, and have a rough idea about how to make each thing... so good luck, and try to take my advice seroiously, I know, it sounds like a bunch of crap, but it wont do you any harm to make a pong game anyway

So i guess unless there is any one else out there who could do a small bit to help this project, im going to put it on hold and well start on pong....

Hey everybody,

I will try to stay on the forums to give updates but I can't promise anything...

So anyway the game is coming along quite well now and it is two allied companys (King gamers and ANIRE)

We are putting a lot of effort into this project. I have been programming for four years come july (didn't join the forums four years ago though) so don't worry this is a PROFESSIONAL project.

Also it is great to hear that you are on the team (even if on and off) DB Newbie

One word of caution though:

if you are going to use T.ED in order for the map to go right you will need to create MASSIVE maps. As eray told me it is supposed to be a super fast game.

Also eray if you want multiple continents then I can design another one

Also I have finished setting up our message board now so it is much better then the old bravenet one (No offence Eray but it really did have too many ads and stuff)

also DB Newbie if you email me (using your main email address) I can set you up on the message board

Can you make it a custom resolution 64x64 tiled (hi res mode) map
I understand you get major lag on this type of mode but the end result is amazing

Also Eray I was thinking should I load up the code at the end of the project and input it into DBP to do multiplayer setup DirectX 9.0c and Pixel shading?

Can you tell me if it is just me that thinks my posts are to long.

Till then,
Bye

Yep T.ED V4.2 (I beta tested it from 3.2 onwards)

I understand about the email thing but do you know any other way of giving you the web address for the forum and the password to get on it?

also does anyone like the CGI effects?
