Hi there

Sorry to bother everyone with this. I know you're all busy and stuff but I was hoping to hear your opinions on which of the following games I should buy (it's okay to introduce your own best choices). Also tell me which of the ones from the list ONLY do you think I would regret most not buying (imagine that this is the last game I'm going to buy)?

Firstly, I'm getting this through my 15$ gift certificate from Amazon for their 2 month delivery delay. Secondly, I am looking for these qualities:

1) Long game play (and fun - not boring and repetitive).
2) Adventure or RPG (with good story and not just shooting everything).
3) Something at or below 9.99$
4) Graphics shouldn't be too old (not like Wolf3D)

Thirdly, I already have the following games - have a look so you can understand what I really like - the rank is out of 10:
1. Outcast 9/10
2. Gabriel Knight 3 9.75/10
3. Deus Ex 11/10
4. Halflife 8.5/10
5. NFS 3 (haven't played)
6. Blair Witch 1 (haven't played - too scary still)
7. Jane's F-15 9.5/10
8. Discworld Noir 10/10
9. Stupid Invaders 10/10
10. Die Hard Nakatomi Plaza 6/10
11. No one lives forever 1 10/10
12 Swat3 9/10
13 Anachronox (not played yet)
14 Hitman: Contracts (not played yet)
... and of course...
15. Darkbasic Classic 10/10

Here are a few selections I've seen so far:
1) The Longest Journey
2) Escape from Monkey Island or Curse of Monkey Island
3) Mafia
4) Max Payne
5) Metal Gear Solid 2
6) Prince of Persia
7) Grand Theft Auto value pack (GTA1 and GTA2)
8) Area 51

Here are so games I CAN NOT or DO NOT WANT TO buy:
1) Grim Fandango (not available)
2) NOFL2 (not available)
3) Deus Ex 2 (too high specs)
4) Unreal Tournament (too repetitive - shooting everything)
5) Theif (not available)
6) Worms (not available)
7) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (not available)

Thanks

I highly reccommend Wolfenstein 3D. Sure it's not the newest of games, but definately my favorite.

Thanks for the replies.

Oopps!!! Forgot to mention what I'm looking for:
1. Long game play (10-20 hours)
2. Nice adventure feel with good story and hopefully good humour.
3. Moderate graphics (i.e. not really old ones)
4. Overall good feel for game (i.e. it doesn't leave you
disappointed).
5. Can be RPG, Adventure/Action but not full FPS like Halflife - No one lives forever is great example of Adventure/Action/RPG.

Here is the updated list of game options (note that I'm just browsing through amazon picking up titles to buy with my 15$ gift certificate):
1) The Longest Journey
2) Escape from Monkey Island
3) Mafia
4) Max Payne
5) Metal Gear Solid

You will enjoy POP Sands of Time, definitely out of all of those games listed above. It has a great story element, it's linear like a good adventure game should be, and it has its fair share of action, romance and daredevilism.

iirc the next Tomb Raider game's released on Friday. If I was you I'd wait and get some money off that.

Out of the games you listed I'd go for Metal Gear Solid because, in my opinion, it has quite a lot of re-play value. But it's worth noting that's the only game in your list I've played.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've got most of the games you've thus far mentioned (that's why I specified the list).

What'd all think about Metal Gear Solid 2 vs. The Longest Journey? And for those who've played either - how long (on average) did it take to complete each? Thanks

That's one of the things I like about MGS2. I can start it up in very easy mode if I want to bash through it in less than a day (believe me, you WON'T get your money's worth if you only play easy mode, You miss a third of the game if you go for very easy!) while sitting back to enjoy the fmv clips or I can go for european extreme if I want to get my money's worth.

If you're going to get Metal Gear Solid(1), I recommend getting Twin Snakes for Gamecube, when I got it a while ago it was $20, so it should be pretty cheap now. Twin Snakes redid the cutscenes (much cooler, even if it is a little over the top), and it updated to use the controls from MGS 2.

Sands of Time also rocks. Those are probably the two best on that list by my standards. Although I haven't played Monkey Island or Longest Journey.

Put your money back in your pocket and go here:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_tmnations_downloads.html

Trackmania Nations rocks, I got the new Toca race driver game, and that sucks in comparison. Free, no lag hassle, awesome track editor, it's just such a cool game idea and excellently done.

It's the only PC racing game I've gotten into.

My brother likes it too, we often play on the UK's rated servers, as Van-B and Minty, he's rated about 220 in the UK, whereas I'm rated 600-odd in Russia (don't ask!). I love the way it works, because your actually against several online opponents, but pings don't bother this game nearly as much. Like it prioritises you in the game engine, so you get a smooth game regardless, and the other players just have to tell your PC where they are - lag does'nt matter, it's all done with lap time trials. Most of the time it's a case of getting through a track just once to get a score, like a fast racing game with puzzle solving stunt elements.

Personally I like making my own tracks, the editor makes it as easy as clicking Scalectrix together, only with jumps and onbstacles and 3D. Even if your on dial-up, it's worth the download .

Just played a few races in TheGameCommunity and it was fun! First time I've played anything online. I realised later that I have Trackmania already, but never played it much, and forgot about it. My version has trucks n stuff. Anyway this game is fun online.

I borrowed Trackmania Sunrise from work, and damn is it fun! It reminds me of Stunts--- which is a huge compliment! The music, graphics, and joystick controls are phenomenal--- just wish I owned it hehe.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD TRACKMANIA NATIONS!

I have been reading from several sources that it is bundled with StarForce malware, which can cause major instability with Windows, including crashes, CD drive shutdown, and others (it's actually a set of drivers that are installed secretly).

Use at your own risk!

I have read that the retail versions are fine--- just the free Trackmania Nations has the malware. I guess they figured they needed to make their money either way. Thing is I would rather pay for the software than have it for free with malware.

As of today I have lost almost all of my respect for the developer. Sad, really.

I have just installed the retail version, it said..

"Do You Wish To Check For Updates?"

I put yes.

Then you get a 256MB download, which could contain the same thing.

I don't know whether to run the download.exe or not.

But I do have a Starforce removal tool, just in case.

I decided to read their forums. Very interesting.

StarForce is part of NADEO disc protection, so all of their software uses it. It must be on my original copy as well. There are posts on the forums of Sata Drives breaking. Two broke in one day for some unfortunate person. Also CD roms were breaking, and DVD's. But most people are quite content with the disc protection.

NADEO believe that the disc protection is safe. They put up a prize of $5000 to anyone who can show that it broke their hardware, but no other software is allowed on your computer apart from Windows. Nobody claimed the prize, and NADEO claimed victory, and stopped the competition. It was a short run thing, and everyone was suspicious of the time that it ran... "Why not run forever!"

Anyhow, I have decided to play the game for awhile, because I do not play games all that often. I will risk it.

I refuse to play Trackmania, splinter cell, and several other games because they use starforce "protection". It totally ravages computers looking for anything that could be used for image emulation and won't let certain programs run after you've installed a game that uses it. Its sick that its legal, and the workaround for it is illegal (I won't tell you exactly what its name is since its illegal, plus name is a pretty bad too ). Then again, even the work around proggie dosen't work all the time...

Theres a StarForce removal tool here for download... I don't know about the workings of the site, as StarForce seems to be a bit flakey, which makes me think that the site is the same. But here it is anyway.
