Does anyone know if theres a web site for downloading bitmapped fonts (and not bitmap fonts), ie fixed-sized fonts that are created & stored in bitmap files.

You talking about bitmapped true type fonts? Or fonts like you used to see in the old ST/Amiga demos flying around the screen?

Cheers,

Rich

Old style ST/Amiga/C64 fonts...

I dont really want to use TT fonts as a) usage can be slow b) not everyone wants a new font added to their system, c) most are not fixed font, and d) I'll want to do special effects with them (maybe)

Why not open up a font and then take a screni?

What I might actually do is stick all the characters into Cinema 4D, position the camera and save the bitmap from there.

MrToad - I have loads of the type of bitmap fonts that you want. Email me and I'll send you a zip file full of 'em. I also have a few programs that will turn TTF fonts into bitmap images, properly spaced out so they all fit neatly.

Cheers,

Rich

I haven't recieved anything yet. Try sending it again. If I get it to work, I'm gonna place it on my website and place a link here so you don't have to send it to everybody all the time (if you allow me).

Cool retro bitmapped fonts there rich

I'm doing my own right now, and it's alot of work if u
do them from scratch. I'm looking for something a bit
more modern looking, haven't found much on the net.

A word of warning: Obviosly if u are going to use bitmapped-
fonts u need to make u're own text-engine (well, sort of),
and if it is like mine which uses PASTE IMAGE to output
BMap-text (1 char/time) to the screen u cant output to much text at once, it simply gets to slow.

Any chance of a PASTE IMAGE performance increase in the near future?

...And a BitMapFontDLL would be very valuable, any up to the task?

paste image/sprite same thing & performance, at least on my machine.
I've tryed several methods (thurst me), Paste Image works best for me.
Eventually I'll try with memblocks\lock pixels which I expect to perform much better with heavy text output.
For now my bitmap text functions works ok, for
normal game text output like score, hiscore, name etc.,
still got about 950fps to go on average output of 200 characters.
which is not much but, suffice

Even with "heavy" text output I still know you can throw hundreds of sprites onto the screen and still have a decent frame rate in DBPro. Bassi is right about the sprite/image differences though - there aren't any

Rich
