Mac will be releasing something new with the new version of Mac OS (Mac OS X Leopard) called bootcamp, that allows you to install Windows XP onto your Mac, to be honest some would say it is a disgrace to apple macs, however, assuming all the software works, thats a dream come true to people like me who need the compatibility of Windows and want the stability of Mac for others without using two comps. So basically all these 'Will DBP run on mac' questions will be answered with a yes as long as you have windows XP.

Oh and there is a BETA for those keen Mac peoples to try it out;

I'm abit of a noob, but what does "Run XP natively" mean?

Anyway, this is fantastic. I'll be buying a MacBook Pro in the next coming months, and this is just another peice of goodness. I have been a hard-core Mac hater my whole life, but I have been converted. If I could do it, there's still hope for the rest of you to change to.

I don't know, the word 'run' is such a blur.

But this means your Mac can catch all those nasty windows viruses. Which probably isn't that much of a problem as long as you switch back to OS X when you want to surf the web.

I can't see how this is any different to the unofficial hack that was released when it comes to running DBP but feel free to point me in the direction of a quote saying you can use directx.

I doubt I'll have the £££ for an Intel Mac before Vista is released but I'll almost definately try this out when I do.

I couldnt agree more, its better if you have two hard drives however and not mounting the other or even connecting it to your machine would keep your os x safe.

imagine something like a hotswap bay in towers but for your lappies hard drive.
lock n load windows xp / or lock and load mac os x

starting with both is asking for trouble, however a good windows developer can avoid many trojans worms etc with a few good tools so there is a risk when both are mounted, but it is greatly reduced if only one drive/OS is mounted at once.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

It means that Windows XP will run off the computers hardware directly, without the need of a virtual machine or emulation layer.

I guess I could be wrong, however in the direction they are heading I assumed there would be support, or will be support (Then again now that I think about it Microsoft probaly wouldn't think too much of direct X support)

Apple have provided the drivers to all of the Mac hardware, including the graphics card. Windows XP would run normally, and therefore games and DBPro would run without a problem.

the incipient creep of winderz goes on, this is subtle and seriously flawed, it removes the requirement for Apple specific software since it runs under Intel CPU`s now, so porting to Winderz is a cinch, next step is Apple specific apps go to Vista, then no need for Apple, , makes me wonder if Gatesy isn`t a major shareholder in Apple (quitely of course), and quitley destroying them whilst avoiding the backlash

this is not a good idea

[edit] another thing, does this mean that instead of the nice silent Macs we know, they now all have 3 or so fans droning away 24/7, I`m getting tired of all the constant noise, even with "silent" cooling systems

Dr Frankenstiens mum told him to make some new friends, not knowing where this was going to lead.

Some of the power macs use liquid cooling, so, if it came to needing 3 or more fans, I'm sure they would use the liquid cooling more

Basically what this means is that you select either Mac or Windows when you boot your mac. The Mac side functions exactly as it did before, and the Windows side functions exactly as if you were using the PC. So far the only two reported things that don't work in the Windows side are the system clock keeps re-setting itself and the iSight camera doesnt work. Apart from that everything runs hunky dory.

There is also something called virtualisation technology, which from what I understand sections off different parts of the chip to run diferent Operating systems simultaneously. This in theory would allow you to switch back and forth between Mac and Windows without rebooting.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/04/06/parallels-provides-xp-on-mac-in-virtual-machine/

That is a beta release of some software that allows you to run windows software without having to reboot into Windows.

Hope that clears things up,

Mike (Blue Shadow)

To be honest I want mac to be big, I mean because of what the CEO of Dell said a while back (can't quote it, but it meant something about mac being below them or sumthin lol) and Steve Jobs can shove whats his face's nose right into it

lol I know the quote your thinking of Musashi. Jobs did rub the CEO of Dell's nose in it, something about share prices, and then the next day Apple's shares dropped. Thats life i suppose.

I cant wait till the Macbooks come out, they should be slick as hell, expecially dual boot Windows and Mac. Windows for games and DBP, Mac for everything else. Funky as a money in extra tight leather hot pants doing the Cha Cha Slide
