Its 3 O' clock, I anxsiously run into the house, throw my backpack to the ground, run to the fridge, grab a snack, and turn on the TV. YAY, Toonami just started!

If you know what im talking about (Im guessing Most in the US, and more specificly young teen agers), you problaby remember the tv shows shown on Toonami block, which used to air from 3 to 5(If my memory is correct)

Now, im not much of a ranter, but the new shows shown on this block (which is now only on saturdays) are nothing like their early predicessors. Shows like DBZ (Some might say its stupid, but I think we all had that faze) Sailor Moon (No, im not a chick, nor am i gay) Ruroni Kenshin (Had to be the last great show from Toonami) and of course, ReBoot (I would apriciate the humor now more then ever). The list goes on, but they were all classics in my heart. So, my question is, Why did these shows have to be replaced my newer, and more imature(IMHO)shows? And Further more, are any of these shows still on the air on some small channel ive never heard of?

Yeah, I remember those days... DBZ (they still play it), ReBoot, and even sooner, Ninja Turtles. Long since past though.

Yes, ReBoot Indeed was quite good, though many jokes in it were not really knowable to kids (such as a guitar fighting scene, and the villin turns his guitar up to 11, which is refering to spinal tap). Also the show refered to computer terms constantly, and most of the main cast was named after terms from computers, or had something to do with them.

My absolute best TV memory was over my summer vacation. I got the CSI dvd and every day I would plop down with a pizza hot pocket and a coke and watch a few episodes. I dont know what it was but I loved it and I miss those days.

Is this thread going to be old guys talking about T.V shows that were around before I existed?

I'm out.

Ironically, some of us think the shows you just listed there are the immature ones that replaced our great cartoons of past. I'm talking about shows like Astroboy (probably the only big japanese cartoon), Transformers, Danger Mouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Inspector Gadget, and to a lesser extent, Roger Ramjet, Quickdraw McGraw and maybe even Yogi Bear. And I don't doubt that there's a whole different bunch of shows before them that the previous generation grew to love.

Actully, im a big fan of transformers beast wars (though i cant remember much, as it was on when i was around 6 or 7). I also loved Teenage mutant ninja turtles, but i HATED power rangers. O yes, inspector gadget brings back memories, i seem to remember thinking the little girl (penny was it?) was hot, strange kid i was.

My main point was though that these new shows dont have the charm the ones i grew up seemed to have (Tenchi Muyo comes to mind, i really likethat show, for some strange reason)

3 o'clock!? You get home late, I get out of school at 2:10, and it starts at 7:36 (second bell to homeroom).

Wow, never heard of half those shows. The shows I used to run home to watch in elementary school were He-Man and Transformers. A little bit older and I would watch James Bond Junior and all of those Disney cartoons (Duck Tales, Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, and a little bit of Goof Troop). Ahhh those really were the days. No responsibilities or obligations.

Oh yes, He-Man/Masters of the Universe was awesome. Except for the movie rendition, what the hell was that?!

if you liot think its bad because your favourite shows arn't on toonami anymore, your should try growing up in the 80s, then you'd know the real pain of missing TV shows.

Transformers, Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Jayce and the wheeled warriors, Ulysees...

they're all confined to a dark corner of my mind now, getting blurrier everyday.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

It was just Scooby Doo, Wacky Races, Catch The Pigeon, and Tom and Jerry when I was young.

Some of you older american forum people might remember USA network's "USA Cartoon Express", which had cartoons like Speed Buggy, JabberJaw, Smurfs, Snorks, He-Man, She-Ra, Scooby-Do, and Space Ghost.

It was like a 3 hour block of great cartoons, much better imo than the disgusting crap they call cartoons today. Today's cartoons are downright offensive and some of them are really poorly made. Just watching any of those japanamation-type cartoons is like watching a game run at 5fps, the animations are jumpy, the lip-sync is horrible, and the dialog makes me want to pull my hair out.

I'll take "Tom & Jerry" or "RoadRunner" over "DragonBall Z" any day.

Perhaps, but I think dragonball z is way better then some other newer cartoons such as, well preatty much anything new cartoon network or nickalodean spew up.

Huh? You mean Ninja Turtles?

Yes, and how could I forget Scooby Doo and his annoying nephew Scrappy? And I used to love watching the Ghostbusters cartoon, but I preferred the New Ghostbusters, with the monkey guy. And who can forget the Smurfs?

My sister enjoyed Gem and the Rockers and My Little Pony--- made me want to pull my eyes out of their sockets

Why on earth did he mention DBZ as a "classic?".

It's the original Dragon Ball show that was the old great, not the DBZ & DBGT crap that followed it.

Dragon ball was a great, and i havent seen dragon ball z in a while, maybee it was indeed crap, i do think the "powering up" seemed to be a little, well, like using the bathroom. As for scooby-doo, it will always be the only cartoon I like that wasnt a fairly new show (more then 10 years or so). Its a shame they had to ruin it with spin-offs, becuase really, who liked scrappy-doo?

O yes, for those who know what harvey birdman atorney of law is, Did you catch the one with scooby doo in it? "Luaging when there nervous, always hungry"

Yeah, I have to admit to being one of those "I LOVE DBZ" kids... but when they started airing the original DragonBall episodes, I realized how crap DBZ was. I didn't even bother watching GT too much, because every semblance of anything good from DragonBall had been completely wiped out by then. Oh well.

But seriously, the best show they showed was Hamtaro.

Ha, I never gave Hamtaro a chance. Guess I should have, but i was to "macho" to watch a show about hamsters. Still though, i think tenchi muyo was the greatest show they ever aired on toonami. I would do anything to watch it again.

Oh yeah, that was my list. What was the deal with ducks?

Further back, I'd watch Ghost Busters every day at 3:30, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I saw every episode of Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry on TNT.

I sure enjoyed those cartoons back in the day. In retrospect, though, they weren't that good. Tom and Jerry is the WORST. Bugs Bunny episodes are horrid. I actually think that a lot of cartoons now are better - the plot and humor are more complex. I guess cartoon watchers are growing up into cartoon makers. Of course, there's always crap, but compare today's good ones with yesterday's good ones.

I just cant figure out where kids channels are going,. For instance, at first, nickalodean shows mostly live action game shows, and a few sitcoms(aimed at kids of course) then they throw them out and mostly have cartoons, and now, they have this new, wanna be anima show called avatar: the last airbender. Honestly, where are things going?

Whatever sells is what gets put on. Been that way for a while. Its quite obvious that Nickelodean couldn't care less about where their shows are taking kids, as long as the kids watch it.

Nick at night is aimed at parents. If the kids are watching Nick all day, when the parents come to the TV it will still be on that channel. If cartoons are on, the parents will change the channel. If the Cosby show is on, I might be interested.
