Hi all,
I'd sort of played all the Tomb Raider games available on the ps1 (my brother played them a LOT more than me, those and the resi evils were the only games he played and he more or less memorised (and can still remember) where all the secrets are, all the level names etc))

The Angel of Darkness came out on PS2 but I 've never bought it (mostly due to the less than encouraging reviews).

So about a week ago I bought a mag with a TR:L demo attached, not really knowing what to expect, I decided I quite enjoyed it so today stumped up the cash for the full game.

And, to be honest, I quite like it. I seem to be getting through the levels at a fair old rate but the review I read did say it didn't last long. This doesn't really concern me though because there seems to be stacks of replay value. Every level has a number of bronze, silver and gold secrets to discover and when you've finished the level you can go back and do it in time trial. There's loads of things to unlock, most of which are the usual model viewer and what not but there's also a section in the Extras menu called something like Pistol Add-ons, can't wait to unlock some of those. As you complete levels you also unlock extra parts of the Croft Manor (and even different clothes to try on in the bedroom )

So far the game seems to be stuffed with platforming type game play/puzzles with the odd shooting frenzy thrown in. So far the only real downers have been the lack of weapons (so far I've used 3 different guns, that's including the pistols you always carry, and I've got through a fair few levels) and you can only carry your pistols and 1 extra gun at a time (plus grenades).

One more thing I miss is all the endangered animals to shoot, don't get me wrong, I like tigers and gorillas and alligators and vultures and dinosaurs and spiders and dogs and yetis but I also enjoyed blasting their virtual counter parts in other TR games. The problem is there's almost none in this game. I've encountered about 3 cat things and all the other enemies have been humans (apart from one other thing that's unique to a very small section of one level, won't spoil it for ya though).

So, all in all I think it's a great effort. Currently I own the PS2 version but I may go for it on PC as well if expansion packs get released. If you get the chance to borrow it off a mate that'd probably be better than buying it at the current price, chances are you'll finish it before too long.

p.s. One more thing - the stories a bit confusing but I think it's a case of 'the more you play, the more you understand' either that or I've skipped a massive explanatory cut-scene somewhere by accident.

Anyone else got it, what do you think. And for those that do have it I'm on the level with the big dive into the waterfall/pool at the beginning.

I was watching at that, looked like oodles of fun. I'll have to find some cash and add it to my list of need-to-gets.

Your at the exact same point as me I think. I just beat the swooping thing, not to give anything away. That part was hard. Yeah it's a good game. I am a Tomb Raider fan. Once got a letter, and postcard off Laura Croft, it was an advertising campaign for those that had registered a game, but it was a cool advertising campaign.

Got it thursday, gotta love game pre-orders
The story can get confusing as it bounces back and forth through current events and what's happened in the past, but it's quite a good one.

I love how it works without any fiddling with my 360 controller, and even shows the correct colour buttons on-screen for it.
At the moment I'm in that Tokyo tower, having just ripped down some huge 20ft LCD screen ^_^

Yup, the grappling hook opens up so many new puzzling (and destructive!) possibilities. I remember when that Indiana Jones game was released some reviewers were saying it's the game that Angel of Darkness wasn't. I might grab myself a copy if it's anything like TR: L.

Nah, TR:AoD isn't much like Legend; mainly cause the engine sucked big time. Internal company issues can cause a number of games to just die.

Well anyways, completed it now a total of 8hrs gameplay which tbh is extremely small.. but still it's got a gripping storyline which the ending to is just sweet.

I've got to play through in beginner and advanced modes now, just to get all of the extras. So many outfits to unlock

I was saying I might get the Indiana Jones game, read enough reviews to know not to go anywhere near Angle of Darkness.

I think I'm pretty close to the end now (Nepal level, all the slopes and breaking ice are keeping me on my toes). Not very long but heaps of extras and I still haven't fully explored Croft Manor. And at the end of the day, I'd rather have a short fun game than a long pile of tripe.

I'm betting the game can be creamed in no time the second time through (minus the secrets) because once you know how to solve all the puzzles and kill all the enemies it's just a matter of getting from A to B, going to have a crack at the first level in time trial soon.

EDIT:: Finished it. Now for that time trial.

True, I mean it is a damn good game. Certainly going to help put Lara back on the map after the years of nearly identical sequals that killed it.

Still I just can't get over how freaking short it is, I mean for £25 that's not a bad length.. and I do prefer it to the never-ending pile of crap that is Oblivion. S'pose given my schedual now I should be happy with a game it doesn't take me the next 6months to complete to see the storyline.

Got 80% unlocked so-far... given most of that is the game itself being completed that's a buggerload of extras.

I played a demo of TR when it came out on the Playstation - didn't like it and haven't played it since...

I'd suggest trying the demo of Legend, but that said no real point as iirc you're not a platformer fan. ^_^

Indeed - if it doesn't have gratious violence, I'm not terribly interested. Saying that, I disliked Painkiller - it was so amaturish...

It seems Lara Croft has gotten hotter in this one.

Just found a little section in the Extra menu with Cheat Codes in, so far only unlocked a no textures cheat (not to be mistaken for no clothes )

I've been trying to find my way around croft manor, found quite a few secret doors and passages, but now I'm stuck on one. Done what I 'think' needs to be done, but I can't find the door it's opened.

At first, I had critical views of Crystal Dynamics taking over, but it seems to have been a good choice. Legend is really good, nice flow to it, IMO. Way too short though.

What have you done to unlock the door?
There's one in a secret passage that I've flipped around, but I have no idea where the other side of it is.
