i found a document on my desktop called sets.txt, this is what it had:

now i dont really understand this stuff to much, but i think i can get the jist of it,

this looks like a connection is being established.

this looks like its made a place to store data, and then looked at my media players, and internet explores directory, presumably saving the data.

and this looks like some progress report, "dont show setup", "setup done".
followed by sending somthing, clearing up and disconecting.

anyone seen this kind of thing before?
the gits wanted me to kno by saving this on desktop to

damn hackers! die!

This is the Paramount movie check from either Kazaa, or MSN. Periodically they look for movies that have been downloaded. If they find any they fine you £2000.....................

Probably!!!

I got the exact same paramount movie check, did'nt find any movies but did find a short story I was writing, and offered me a movie deal worth 7 figures.

It's a pity I hate spyware so much that I had to refuse, I might have been rich.

Why would a hacker dump a text file of exactly what he is doing on your desktop where you can see it?

My guess is that it's the log file of some application.

have you got any new software?, maybe it dropped that on the desktop when it ran first time or something, or you ran something that went into debug mode, I wouldn`t get too paranoid, I used to get Word dropping it`s settings file onto the desktop every boot when it complained about a non existant drive not being there, got sick of it and removed Word, maybe it`s something like that.

yea, my pc was, slow dodgy, everything, which is annoying because it has an athalon 3.6ghz proccesor, 1.5gb of ram, and kick ass sound and graphics, so i have just finished a complete reboot

everything i want i saved, all my wanted programs are now back, and im flying along at a speed that youd expect from this pc!

there is one program that comes to mind that could of put that text file on my desktop, it was a crappy little download that i tried to watch some videos that claimed i needed a license, didnt work.

Mod Edit: Don't swear. You've been warned.

I said about Paramount because they really do keep an eye on downloads. My friend got an email from Paramount warning him about his Kazaa conduct.

I'll bet now that King Kong is downloadable it will be shared more than any other movie as well.

And that somehow means that they're legit? A lot of software on ebay is ripped off...

Yes, but software is not against the rules to sell on ebay, is it? So how is one to know whether it's a copy or not? If I purchased a piece of software I thought was legit, and received a CD-R in a paper sleeve, I would alert eBay, Paypal, etc.

But yes, this forum does not condone illegal activities, so let's turn this thread around or it will get locked.

I've had a look on google and it seems sets.txt is quite a common name for files that help things tick over in the background. There was something about editing it to Mod Diablo and something else about editing it to configure an app called PoserSpeak. Plenty of others aswell, you might even be able to find someone with one just like your's if you waste enough time looking.

I'd look in c:\MRecord. It looks like a config file perhaps for Windows media recorder.
