Really cool game I do wish you could control the gun with the cursor keys (and fire with CTRL) as well as the mouse though - I found my mouse got a real hammering!

Love the fire effects and glowing missiles and shockwave when you get hit.

Cheers,

Rich

OK thanks for the generally positive comments. I'll add in keyboard control. It's good to get this feedback - especially before the comp deadline

I found this quite enjoyable and like the 70's sitcom type main screen!

However I did find one bug after playing the game and returning to the main menu....

Hmm, can't say I've ever had the text bug on the title screen

What's your spec PneumaticDryll?

After thinking about it I think I know what is happening. I had the exact same problem when I wrote the Jetpac text scroller and it was because I had an array over 255 characters long - in the end I broke it down to multiple arrays. Many of those characters you see onscreen I suspect are being sent to the screen as an individual character.

I've had the same problem going back in to Astral Invaders afresh, and also seen it on my brothers machine too in Jetpac before I made the changes to the array length.

As far as I can tell DB has a byte-overrun when the string is too long and reads off an area of memory that is not reserved for just the string, so any resulting change in the state of that memory can cause corruption. This is only a hypothesis.

I hope that helps.

Cheers for that

OK folks, here's an update to the .exe plus an updated readme. AMI now has keyboard control for those who prefer it. I've also shortened the sine scroller length to try and fix PD's bug...

Unzip it in the previously created AstralMegaInvaders folder to overwrite the existing .exe:

I just tried running the game under the new patch4 and it's a bit screwed Mainly lighting by the looks of it - all the invaders and the cockpit have gone 'dark', so I'm gonna leave the comp entry at patch3.1

PiratSS, you have to download the .zip at the top of this thread first. The one you downloaded is an update to it
