Its sad really. Switched it on after about a year of non-use, to find some really bizarre problems with it. Whether its overheated at some point, or just purely because of its age - but its dead anyhow
(an original playstation, not the PS One re-release.)

The PS logo loads up all scrambled, and all the 3d objects on screen have severely distorted limbs, that go on for infinity outside of the screen - and that's on every game.

Looks as though I may finally cough up the cash for a 360 (yes, I have been playing PS1 games for the last how ever many years, before you ask...)

And I havn't even got my old Amstrad out the attic yet...

Anybody else got their outdated pieces of crud still running/breaking really badly?

My Saturn won't load any games anymore--- they all go to the music CD menu. I've read that I need to replace the battery, and it's the exact same you can get for regular PC computers. I'm crossing my fingers.

Can't you guys see the pattern, it's an underhanded marketing strategy! All consoles are rigged so they stop working after a couple of years forcing you to get with the times.

Well then, the mechanism works too well. I've just realised the full extent of the damage to my PS. Its truly wrecked. Now 2d is being mangled on screen, and comes out badly mutilated (twisted round, split into lines, and mirrored etc).

could be just damp or condensation, was it stored in a cold place or something, leave it overnight in the warm and it might go right, then again it could be the eprom is losing its data, in that case I should think best bet is to stick it on E`bay for spares, might make you enough to buy a USB keydrive or a cheap MP3 player for when you are out.

Sunrise, goto the Playstation forums and click on the PS2 link, you can call Sony and have them fix your PS2, for free and even if it is out of warranty

Sega Saturn--- maybe it was called something ridiculous in the UK? You guys have weird names for systems--- Sega Megasystem comes to mind.

Mega DRIVE!
And it was only called Genesis in America because they couldn't get the rights to the name Mega Drive. It was called Mega Drive first.

Nah, the saturn was saturn even here in the UK. How he's never heard of it, I don't know. The Saturn's the one that uses CD's as opposed to cartridges, isn't it?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, of course it is, hence:

I never saw a single Saturn or Saturn game in any game shops, ever. I used to visit a lot.

Yeah, the Saturn was the first console with built in storage (it was actually ram, not rom, and would wipe if the battery died ) and the ability to play cd's

The Sega CD for the Mega Drive could play CD's, and so could the Ps1 (not sure whether Sat or PS came out first)

Actually the 3DO had built-in storage memory too, and it predated the Saturn by about a year.

The Saturn was Sega's second foray into the CD-ROM world, after Sega CD.

The PS1 was the last big 32-bit system to be released, after the 3DO and Saturn. Sega CD was *not* a 32-bit system, but an enhanced 16-bit system (think Genesis with multimedia functionality)

Yes! And the Xbox 360 even stops to work after only a few months! Microsoft are so greedy...

lol, the gameboy I got for my birthday in 97' still works. And it was the red gameboy pocket. ONly problem with that thing is that you need to hold down the directional pad button for a bit for it to work.

My ps1 only works if it's upside down at a 35 degree angle. No joke. It's the weirdest thing.

Same with my cousins, he had to flip his upside down too I think

Well, my NES, SNES, PS1, and Sega Genesis are all still working great, though my NES could use a new cartridge connector soon. I better stock up on those before they stop getting manufactured.
