There could be several reasons:
1- The object may be behind the camera...
try using move object (object number),10 to move it forward 10 units. if nothing appears, move it another 10 units. If by 100 units its still not visible...

2- The object may be too small
try using scale object (object number),200,200,200 to make it double its original size. if you can't see it, then scale it to 300 (not 200, since it's already at 200.

Those are the most likely two reasons... remember that it could be both too small AND behind the camera, it doesn't have to be just one of those problems.

Not if autocam is on.

Again, not if autocam is on.

You could have forgot to use a sync command or something like that It's quite hard to help you when we don't got any kind of source code to look at. Would be much easier to track down the problem with it.

Ah yes, I always autocam off, so I don't think of things like that. but because I'm such a bad loser of a non-existent competition:

doesn't apply if manual sync-ing is off

Wrong. The SCALE OBJECT command works in percentage, so 200 would always be twice the size of the object.

EDIT: Typo

Yes, it's a percentage scale, but the object is scaled to the specified percent of it's original size, not its current size. Try scaling on object to 200% three times. you'll notice that after the first time, it doesn't get any bigger...

This is what I meant first time, sorry if it confused anyone...
