Don't know why it's locked, now I have to create a new thread to post about it. Anyway here's my experience with the game today.

I just bought Oblivion today hoping it would run on my PC. Not a chance <1 fps on a 1.8 AMD, 512ram, geforce5200fx or something close. I need a new pc. Anyone know a good place to buy a desktop online? I've checked out Alienware and dell and looks like it will cost €1500-€2000 for a decent machine.

IT got locked because just talking about it causes our computers to start slowing down.

Nicholas, I've checked out Alienware and dell as I mentioned above and one or two others. I'll be doing more searching for sure but was wondering if anyone had any recomendations.

And I don't want to have a go or anything but I'd hardly call a bit of off topic banter Chaos.

You might get a new video card, say at least a geForce 6600GT AGP.
For that card you'll need a spare molex connector on your power supply.

I've got my eye on the nVidia 7600GT 256MB Pci-Express (€239 so far) but I would need a new motherboard and cpu for it and a monitor with dvi too by the look of it. Ugh too much money. It seems the new cards are all pci-express, I'll look up the geForce 6600GT AGP JerBil. Agh just remembered my motherboard is only 4x agp too, I think a simple card upgrade wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks for the link Zone Chicken, will check them out.

Found nVidia 7600GT for £133.64 (€165) http://www.overclock.co.uk/product.php?productid=19204&cat=698&view=rel

Take this opportunity to learn how to build a compo yourself. It's really not difficult at all. It just requires very basic research on google to find out what component goes with what, and it's possible to build a compo for around 60% the price you'd pay for the same spec at Dell.

Really, unless you have money to burn, you really need to be building your own compo. Ebuyer is a good place to start for all your components at a good price, but obviously shop around. I still stand by the fact my compo cos £1700 to build and would've cost around £2500 to buy ready built. It took me 1 day to build and install all software and be ready to go.

I know, I built my current pc myself 2 years ago, it's just with all the new memory types and new technology I have to check everything out again to be sure. After much searching I've got a good system spec outlined below for about €1,300. I'm gonna double check memory/motherboard compatability etc. Good specs for the price I think.

AMD Motherboard socket 939, Athlon64, X2, FX - €71
AMD 64 CPU 3200+ socket 939 2.0Ghz 512kb - €160
Corsair xms2 pc6400 ddr2 1024mg ram - €169
nVidia 7600GT 256MB Pci-Express - €160
200gb hard drive - €87
19" Monitor flat screen - €358
case+psu - €100 to €150

Xtom -

You don't need PC6400 DDR2 RAM - that's overkill for an AMD 3200.
Just get 1 gig of regular Corsair PC3200.

"Project Alpha" (See Biog)

PC: Sempron 2800, 512MB, 120GB, Radeon 9250, WinXP.

xtom, the 6600Gt will work in a 4x agp slot, reguardless of what the ad says. Best thing tho is to get what you want, not what we think.

Turn off pixel shaders then. But from what I have seen, you can adjust the distances you can see almost any of the objects.

I still have no clue why people can not learn how to type. If you find it so hard to remeber where the 'j' key is, get typing classes. Next thing you know, they will put 'wow' on XBOX and then people will say the same thing 'ohh, the controls are so much easier'.

Bethasoft never stated that Oblivion was designed for the 360 in mind, or that I read. It was probally 'redesigned' which is mainly respecing, for the 360. But as for making a game such as this and limiting it for a single console? No, that would only put up a limit and deny creativity.

Finally, the 360 won't have all the leet mods that come with Elder Scrolls software.

I got it the other day, athlon 2200xp (so uh, 1.8 ghz :/) 512 ram, radeon 9600, and it runs on minimum specs pretty well. It lags up a bit though, but its still playable, so playable I havent left the office in 3 days, I have one nord assasin who i've been playing the storyline with, and 1 dark elf assasin who I made so I could murder people and sneak around, then I joined the dark brotherhood. OMG! it's like a new damn game, it's seriously like playing one of the thief games, you sneak around and do random stuff just like in thief. It's just amazing how much work has gone into these sidequests and other random world happenings. I'm really impressed with it, I heard it was low gameplay high graphics, but the gameplay is awesome as well as the graphics. I think people just don't sneak around enough in these games, they miss out on the fun. So many arrows shot for critical damage anyway I'm doing a story log on my video games show site (tehw00tshow.com) as I'm playing through, did a classy half leet self narrative on my nord guy's adventures.

the descision is really simple between the 360 and pc versions, if you have a kick ass home theater and tv setup, get the 360 version, if you have a 1337 computer, get the PC version, if you have both, you should be shot

Here's the new full specs of the system I'm going to build.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz Socket 939, 512KB, BOXED w/fan (€160)
Point of View GeForce 7600GT 256MB, PCI-Express, DVI/Tv-Out, Retail (€219)
Gigabyte GA-K8NMF9, nForce4-4x, m-ATX, Socket-939, 4xSATA, LAN, Firew, PCI-Ex16 (€71)
TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack Kit w/two matched PC3200 DDR DIMMs (€91)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 160GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM (€75)

The core parts above will cost me €616 which I think is pretty good. The graphics card is the dearest thing at €219 but I think it's a very important item in a games system.

I'll add a case with 450w psu and a good 19" flat screen monitor to complete the system and the whole thing should cost less than €1,200

I'm only impressed with oblivion in outdoor scenes. Everywhere else it plays like StarFox Adventures in 1080i and the odd shader.

if you have a kick ass hometheater system, buy a wireless controler and hook your computer up to the TV... lots of systems have S-Video Out.
