DISCLAIMER - Read this before you read the thread please

Scientists just discovered the "missing link," and so naturally my friends (who are almost all agnostic, aethiest, buddhist, or pseudo-christian in the "I don't go to church" kinda way) had a huge theological discussion related to it, and at the end of all that we started toying with the concept of making a non-religious game about Jesus... not a Mel Gibson-esque game where you get whipped a whole bunch, but a weird game where Jesus uses his "magic" and goes on a little "quest" of some sort. Like, he can walk on water and turn people into lepers and all that. My team refuses to do it because they're afraid we'd get sued or boycotted or something, but I think it would be totally awesome... what do you guys think? Would it be too much for people to handle in this modern theocratic society? Would we get burned at the stake for making jesus into a gun-toting soul-saving supercop? Or would it be a pretty cool game? Or is it a stupid concept? I think this'll probably end up being a community project if I do it, if in fact I don't scrap it because everyone would get angry.

I dont think jesus worked miracles for the "hell" of it . And a game without combat would be kinda boring unless it was a puzzle game. And the only combat jesus was a part of was spiritual combat.

Im a long time christian and my grandad owns a pretty sizeable non-denominational church that I used to go to.

Ive thought about something like this before, but then I left the idea alone because I dont think Jesus was the kind of person that would make a good game. If it was accurate it would be something like "Use WASD to walk, E to walk on water, Q to love thy neighbor, and T to turn water into a specified alchoholic beverage"

dont get me wrong I love Jesus jokes, like on family guy or what have you, but i just dont think he himself would make a good game.

Now if you go the symbolic/metaphorical route you have the Legend of Zelda. They even CALL him "the savior". And what does he do? he controls the "triforce" to "save the people"... triforce? cmon it cant get much more obvious. But the thing is that link kicks ass.

I think that kind of route would be best to go, but controlling Jesus just wouldnt be the video game kinda fun, nor would it sit well with some others.

while your at it check this out...

I'm thinking something more along the lines of Jesus meets "Shaft." Like, he's a hard-drinking cop like John McClane, but instead of fighting criminals he's fighting televangelists and wiccans and stuff It would have to be humorous and people would need to realize it's intent as being humorous right off the bat. I don't think it would be right for me to make a "serious" Jesus game, taking into account my religious views and whatnot, but the line between humorous and offensive is often pretty thin

Sorry Fella's, but this has to be locked.

Religion isn't allowed to be discussed because some users can't control themselves. Since this thread hasn't gone sour quite yet, I won't delete it, I'll lock it so you can copy&paste your posts on some other site or instant message.
