Is there a program that can put an AVI onto DVD in a format so that I can just pop the dvd into my player and it'll start playing? I don't menus or any other stuff, just basically like VCR functionality.

Well there are converters, which take considerable time to convert the videos.

If you have a lot of videos, then I would suggest investing in a half decent divx player, which will play divx videos, xvid, mp3 and all your ordinary dvds. Expect to pay between £30-60 in the UK. I can fit about 17 hours worth of video onto one disk.

I dont know any specific programs for converting but im sure there are some around, maybe even freeware.

if you have a mac just use IDVD so easy.
DVD Studio Pro wil do it as well.

if you bought a DVD burner there should be authoring software like Ulead that is just as simple.

just drop in the avi without a menu and it will auto play.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

If you don't like menus and sony "the destroyers of computers" dvds then you could try this:

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

It is the best! Try out the demo and you'll see what I mean. It puts the middle finger to unskipable adverts, menus and Sonys malware. It can also copy the dvd so it will work on dvd players

Its quite cheap too!

edit:
You can try this if you really want to convert an avi file, I tried it a while ago and the results were pretty good.
