Ultimate Arena - an open community project
Hello fellow community members,

Let me not take too much of your time and get stright to the point. My name is Josh Hubi, I am 16 years old and also and game programer. Im now trying to fulfill my long lost dreams of even working on a game. Many months ago a friend of mine told me "why start fresh when you can make games with an easy to use program" I asked him; "like what" and he give me a link to thegamecreators.com. From that point on, I fell in love with the company. My first move was buying FPSC but may other projects took my time away and its took me until now to return here.

My latest project is called "Ultimate Arena" Ultimate Arena will be a Multiplayer arena for gamers with low end computers and low on cash. U.A will be released for free with a few major enhancements to the FPSC Engine. UA should be an open community project where we all can give in a slice of something to make something truly fun. U.A will be made with FPSC with the following enhancements:

> In game voice chatting
> In game chat enhancements (12% done)
> NPC Command menu (Planning Stage)
> Team Play (Planning Stage)
> Server Master List (powered by M-E-Tech.com Servers) (Planning Stage)
> Content download in game (Planning Stage)
> Custom sounds, players, models (2% done)

I am not making any promises but I plan to release (if any) of the coding to the public via CodeBase. We also plan to add custom sounds, players, models, and such after the development.

Like I said before, I am not making any promises so please don't count on me. I'm simply coming to this lovely community in need of help later down the road.

While the development of Ultimate Arena is far far away, we have made a small beta for you guys to enjoy on. This beta does not include none of the enhancements since they have not been developed yet. Please enjoy the beta.

Ultimate Arena will release under the gamingsaturn.com name, a new gaming company based on FPSC in the works with Ultimate Arena. Please wish us luck and I hope I can turn to the help of this community.

Hi,

Just tried the High-End Demo, just some thoughts:

Level size was very large, as development moves on with your project I'd suggest adding some memorable features so that the map can be learned, also changing the room/corridor design in places to make it seem a little less repetitive.

Technical issues, the loading time was several minutes and whilst the framerate stayed high the majority of the time there were a few times when it dropped by half. Installing to a directory other than the default resulted in a black screen when trying to load the game.

The HUD you use (which reminds me of the style in Halo) I've seen elsewhere - just wondering if you designed it or knew who did? The other screens were nice too.

I'm pretty sure Riker9 is not dealing with MP, not sure how/if that affects you. If you are able to incorporate the planned features then this would be impressive.

Good luck and hope to see more later down the line.

Cheers, Rich.

It is my understanding that CB stripped MP out of the engine for Riker9. Don't look for those enhancements anytime soon.

Played the high end. I was never able to change weapons with the number keys, even though I had picked up a different weapon.

Other than that I thought it was well designed and playable.

Nice work.

thank you all for the great feedback,

we made sure we had no memory leaks in out maps giving us great framerates....The only time the rate will drop is when you go into an area with a mass amount of lighting. We are waiting for Riker9 to release so we can have an improved framerate. once we get this, we dont have to worry about checking every code and making sure we dont have any memory leaks. after this we will start coding..

Did you try pressing "0" (number) on your keyboard? I get that bug in all FPSC games as well, but pressing "0" usually fixes it.

Yes, it didn't work. It could have just been a glitch in may case, and not affecting all players.... don't know.

since we are waiting on Riker 9, I'm going to start making the many maps that will be up for the release of UA, you can host an server and change its name, amount of players, and map; or join an already made server (powered by m-e-tech.com)

The 1st map I am working is called "ua_trainstation" Its an train station for a large underground facility Here are a few screen shots:

http://www.devhubi.com/dev/UA/maps/Untitled-1.jpg
http://www.devhubi.com/dev/UA/maps/Untitled-2.jpg
http://www.devhubi.com/dev/UA/maps/Untitled-3.jpg
http://www.devhubi.com/dev/UA/maps/Untitled-5.jpg

once i finsh the map, I will work on custom modules and textures for it such as an full train, tran doors, railway tracks, and walls.

If anyone would love to help, they will get full credit for the map. regardless of how much work you have done... UA should be an open community project where we all can give in a slice of something to make something truly fun.

This sounds excellent! I really do hope you can pull it off at least you're honest that.

Quote: "The project is on hold as of now as we are waiting for Cellbloc Studios to release Riker 9 so we can start the code devlopment. We also plan to add custom sounds, players, models, and such after the development."

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't wait for CB, we've all been waiting over 6 months for him now to even show us something. Also as noted he is planning on taking out the MP coding and even is considering preventing the user from accessing physics.

Besides, CB seems to have gone missing..... Do start work on it without him. From the moment he started to talk about disabling MP, Riker9 has become much less interesting for a lot of us.

blobzone entertainment inc,
You say he was lying and has shown no proof. Silence. Many of us have been here longer than you and thus know a lot more than you. Don't try to dictate or overthrow something by accusing it to be false. Wait and see. If it is false, everything will fall apart in the end and CB will end up having to tell us ro flee, at which point we will have released it is false.
If it is true, he will eventually have to show some proof, or will be forced into telling us it is non-existant. If this is the case, it would be a lie. So don't try to be a judge, jury and executioner, blobzone entertainment inc. Wait until you've actually been here for a while, THEN try and say that something which has been around a LOT longer than you is fake, and that the person who has been working on it and has also been around a hell of a lot longer than you is lying. Understand?
This is NOT a flame, it is simply an indication of what is right and what is wrong.

Tom

Tom, I've been here longer then you and I haven't seen any proof of it, so blobzone has a good point.

Nice demo of an arena game. The load screens music was a nice touch. The high res one I didnt play, as it kinda hung up on me but a very good effort none the less. Lotta time just in what you've done. Liked the the space feel of it, but think making it more ship then building like would rock.

We are back to life. I have been working on a new project with FPSC. I will release some info on that soon.

now back to UA. Tonight I will get the site up 100%. I will post back here when the site launchs.

ps. we got multiple maps working in fpsc by using more then one build and joining them together. This was based on crow34's work with his MP game. We will share it once it is really ready.
