Have you folks seen this guy yet? He's a robot that they sell at Radioshack and Circuit City for around $250. He can walk, talk, use his hands, detect objects and colors, and he's capable of performing a bunch of nifty tricks and whatnot. For instance, he can go bowling... you set bowling pins in front of him, then hold his little green bowling ball in front of his face. He'll see the ball, say "hey, that's my ball!", and stick his hand out asking for it. If you give it to him, he'll look around, find the bowling pins, calculate trajectory, and throw the ball. On a hard, non-carpeted floor, he can actually knock the pins down. And he's got tons of programmable features and button combinations that you can use to have him do everything from passing gas to bumming for change to hitting on chicks... this thing is awesome and if you haven't seen it yet, I figured I'd show him to you at this link . Neat, huh? He dances, too. Even cooler is that he can fully interact with other robots (another robosapien, a roboraptor, or a robopet). for instance, if he's hanging out with a robopet, he'll ask it to lie down, play dead, etc., and if the dog misbehaves, Robosapien will yell at him Awesome.

Okay, there's some bad things. If he falls on his face, he can't get back up (although if laying on his back he can lift himself from the ground). While his controls are seemingly endless at first, the really fun ones can get old fairly quick. Still, I'd pay $250 for him if I had that sort of money to blow.

This post was fairly stupid, but this thing rocks so I figured I'd enlighten you all to it

Gimmick.

Spend the $250 on a PSP instead. It won't clap or sing for you, but it can play movies.

I'd buy beer and software. I'm an alcoholic geek

But seriously, I'd never drop $250 on RoboJunk version anything. It's like big sideburns - once people were really cool when they had them. Now, you'll get stabbed for that kind of thing.

I dig it. I've played with it in person and it's a pretty cool toy. True though, that sort of money is better spent on a PSP. When they come out with Robosapien V18, who does dishes and goes to the grocery store and walks pets... then I'll probably get one so I can become an even LAZIER american But I thought I'd share the bot with you guys anyway.

btw, I think I should point out that the next person who says "gimmeh teh codez" will end up having hordes of Robosapiens decending upon them as I unleash nerd fury

Yeah it's interesting to watch. The commercial looks a bit cheated. I mean, the talking is obviously not as good as the loud echo speech on the commercial. The movements are sort of clipped in the video so that they follow one another in a real time combination of seperate movements. I think it is not as good as it looks.

It actually does move pretty slick... but it also tends to fall on it's face more than Gary Busey at a New Years Eve party

Are'nt those just premade toys, If I were realy wanting to make a robot and I had money, I would definitely look more at oopic (http://www.oopic.com/)
With that, I could make any kind of robot, with screens, wheels, legs, infras, and I could program a logic for all by myself. It could get my pizza while trying to find a freezer, that's something far beyound female or sapien robots would do for me
And it's two times cheaper and much more geeky.

It's only a chip, but that's what makes it cool.

haha. I read most of your post thinking you'd said "I've played with it in PRISON". hehe. Classic mistake. I was gonna ask you which pen you were in and whether you knew my mate the Butcher. Then I realised I'd made a terrible error, so have decided to keep my criminal past to myself.

If Mr. Robo came with lazzer cannons and a strong desire to crush my enemies, I might consider buying one. Otherwise, I'd rather buy 1000 8 track cassette decks and set them on fire. It would be a more efficient use of the money / entertainment ratio.

In a few years, he will be an 8 track cassette deck. He'll get bullied by the other cooler robots, and called a RoboSexual.

In 8 years, Robosapien V12 will be out and HE will have laser eyes and special vibrating sensors (for the ladies) and a super quad-core processor that will develop free thought. They'll break out of their packaging in Radioshacks and Circuit City's and arm themselves with stationary and a few days later the world will be run over with little dancing robots. Anyone taking bets?

(Batteries not included).... I played with one at circuit city (v1.0) and it ate up the batteries sooo fast. The guy put them in and in an hour and a half-ish ( I lost track of time so it could of been longer), he was becomeing slow..... Well, he walked slow to begin with, but yah..
