As the title suggests I am desprate (spelling). I have a very large family and we only have one computer! So I find it very hard to program! So I was wondering (if this is okay with the mods) if anyone has a second-hand/refurbished computer/laptop (laptop preferred) that they are willing to part with. Basicly it needs to run DBpro but my aimed specs are
[email]
1.3Ghz (No celerons)
256MB+RAM
40GB HDD
DVD 8x (CD-Burner will suffice though)
Video card 16MB+ (Dedicated preferred)
Brand anything except compaq
[/email]
My price range is a bit limited $500 to $600 AUS so maybe those specs above are abit hevty considering. But really as long as it runs DBpro its okay!

I would also need to work out some sort of deal with the owner for an interest free period.
If anyone could help I would be much obliged!
Thanks

Your best bet would be to look on eBay.

I don't know if they operate this in your country, but in the UK there is a great scheme called Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org) - it is sort of like ebay, but no-one bids on anything, everything is offered up for free.

It works really really well here. I am on my local Freecycle mailing list and I recently put 3 old PCs on it (all of them capable of running dbpro), which people came and collected from my house and took away for free.

I also got rid of a load of books, and found a local organic box scheme! It's all good stuff. I see PCs on the list around here very often, there have been about 6 this week (of varying spec), and they are all free - you just have to be bothered to go and pick them up.

Worth a look at least.

@Rich
I am in Australia. How does the freecycle work? I mean dob't you want to make something instead of giving it away?

Read the web site, it explains it all well.

Nope. I just could not be arsed to mess around flogging off old PCs on ebay. Absolute hassle, especially shipping them, etc. I just wanted them gone, so within 3 hours of posting my message on freecycle offering them, someone had come to my house and taken them away - absolute bliss! and not a penny exchanged hands ever.

Yeah, it's actually a pain to dump PC equipment these days, costs money!.

At work we tend to have a 3-month clearout, where all the leftovers get dumped in a corridor, and people can salvage what they can, monitors, PC's, HD's - there's been some nice freebies dumped in that corridor.

Really, it's a case of letting someone pick it up themselves for free, or taking it to a dump and paying someone to dispose of it, no contest really!.

the trading post is online.
[href]www.tradingpost.com.au[/href]
or

www.ebay.com.au
as you mention above.

http://www.shopbot.com.au
is not bad actually but you have to know your parts and shop around plus watch the mail postage factor.

easy way would be to go to umart, they have cheap parts in australia.
depending where you are
eg:
if you dont mind Pentium umart has this box
spend the rest on a cpu ram and hard drive and your set.

http://www.umart.com.au/
[this link is taken out of a frame but shows the specs of the box.]
http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=84&&bid=2&sid=12785

mind you thats a qld price, its cheaper the closer you are to sydney or melbourne.
a city supplier in one of the above mentioned would be cheaper.

Ok most definitly check out the Australian newegg site (i think there is one). You can make a sick computer for that amount of money. Im making a CS:Source server for my friend and its costs 400 dollars. For 500 you can have an amazing computer lol.

For 600 dollars you could get a better PC than what your minimum specs were on Newegg or even a store

there is no newegg site in australia.
dont forget to alter your prices due to $ conversion.
umart would be the easiest plan for this ankle biter.

great ! bootcamp and twin OSES, sweet!, A client bought one around the other day.
It has some great aspects especially the remotes navigation system tied into the 3d OS environment.

it would run DBC and DBP quite well. if you just want to run DB, save money and put a desktop box together.

Sounds like you want something a little worse than my PC, and it stresses me out a lot and makes me wish I had a never PC, however compared to my old one, its nice and powerful, except the OS is buggier.

If I knew you personally I would give you mine as soon as I got a new one, as I did to a friend with DBC, dark matter and TrueSpace.

What I would suggest is look at your budget and see whats the best custom PC you could build, custom builds are usually cheaper than new PC's as for second hand comps, not a clue, ebay is the place you will most likely find something, however you run the risk of a scam, just just their comments, number of positive comments (if theres a high number you can trust them the most you can for a geezer on the net) and look at the page, if anything looks dodgey, keep away

Yey! I removed the sig...
