I was wondering if anyone knows how to easily make a game auto-install itself - like with InstallShield. Do you have to use 3rd party software or is there something built into DB Pro that can do this for you?

Thanks,
John

I wouldn't say every single game, many games use many different install programs, but yes, they are 3rd party.

Try Install maker by Click Team I use it when I create install application. I think you can download a freeware copy of it on the page:

Thanks. I guess I just need to search around the internet.

The thing with InstallShield is that it can cost $1000+ if you want to use it commercially.

You could code one yourself, it isn't all that difficult if you really think about it

In DB Pro, when you click on Settings, there is an option "Installer type EXE". I haven't found any documentation on this. Anyone know what this is about or where the documentation for this can be found?

Thanks in advance.

An "Installer type EXE" in DB Pro is just a exe file that when clicked on, the game appears in the same folder as the installer. Not much good. It dosen't tell the user anything or give options for installing.

If you need one now you can download InstallShield 3.5 which does the job.

Actually, Win2K has such a utility built in - add files and directories to an exe. You can even add user license text and whatnot. I can't remember the name of the utility though. But it does come standard with Win2K, and probably XP as well.

Anyone know the name of it?
