heh, Now I know why I use a Mac & OSX for most of my work.
microsoft are becoming less reliable as each year passes.

OSx will be on 10.6 or something by then.

Well, OSX is now being targetted for new viruses, of which Apple are responding even slower than Microsoft would, so I wouldn't called Apple more reliable

EDIT:

And for something as important as an OS, I say the longer in dev. the better. I would rather get something more stable than have something full of holes that needs to be patched every other day.

I havent got one yet mate, Ive used macs for 20 years, not one virus.
The closest i got was downloading the autostart cdrom infection app to see what it was like.
I got a few on my pc infact more then Id like to mention, let alone spyware and hijackers.

If your referring to virii that infect a pc windows partition and then infect a linux / unix partition on that machine then i have nothing to worry about. I dont run a dual boot mac/windows system.

W32.Winux is *not* a platform-independent virus. W32.Winux's initial injection point must be a Windows machine -- it cannot start by infecting a Linux box. Once it infects a Windows computer though, it starts looking for certain files under the Windows file system *and* the Linux file systems. When it finds what it's looking for, it opens files and inserts code.
"

yesterday i made $xxxx on osx and macromedia mx.
I could have done the same on a pc sure no argument there.
The intergration of the os and the software however on OSX is like
a million times better for deving this kind of work on Apple.

I found 4 programs I would have to pay for but there are free unix alternatives everywhere i look now for osx.

You think im dumb enough to run as root on osx, I highly doubt you realize what your saying. lmao. Id have to install the virus.pfft get real matey.

2007 vista is delayed, so is my interest in MS's new OS crud cobble osx wanna be.

Please provide a link to your "statement" regarding apple slow at updating.
I just recieved a SECURITY UPDATE this morning from apple pty ltd.

I would look at the methods used to create the OS as to blame for the gaping security holes in windows before I defended it as a secure stable option for professional developers.

put vista on a 600 mhz pc and it will hardly run, OSX runs fine n dandy on a 400mhz and up.

who cares if its delayed. its just going to be windows xp again with better graphics, not much new funtionality.i bet. i didnt notice anything major about xp home edition from windows 98.

but they keep making new os,slapping a brand new sticker on it & saying 'new'!!! so everybody buys it & they keep raking in the cash.

i hate them.but i wouldnt if i could have a share of their profits.:p

sad thing is,someday ill probablly be forced to goto vista, unless i want to get an apple.

Aside from the fact that a lot of games don't come out on the Mac, I don't see one thing wrong with it. When I went to school, the Macs were always much faster and easier to use than the new Dells we had.

yeah only the most profitable games seem to appear on the mac platform.
there are some that are mac only as well. ambrosia studios make some great games.
I dont choose my dev machine for its game play experience however.

Exactly. If I had the money for a Mac, I'd do my devving on it. Theres a reason why most studios (music, graphics, and the ilk) use macs.

Ive used Apple g3's running OS 8.6 years ago at Euro R.s.c.g in sydney to create Intels 3d chip graphics on FormZ. Theres your definitive answer, Intel hires a mac based design company to render all the Intel APAC graphics for their website.
pfft its like driving ford ceos around in holdens bwhaha

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12537279/

Describes how the first ever OSX viruses are being released, and how slow Apple is to patching them. They learned about 7 security exploits in their OS back in January, and at the time the article was written, had STILL not patched them.

People are comparing Apple (and its fanbase) to how Microsoft was three years ago. In denial and unable to cope with security holes.

I've always believed that OSX's security was only through obsqurity.

lol this was mentioned over at 3DW by a Mac lover, we took the mick...

Anyway this is bad business for Microsoft at the point where Mac are releasing Boot camp and are using intel, if Microsoft get thier act together and actually do something with the extended deadline they gave themselves, they may start really loosing business, I think it might be best for them to make Vista into something really stable and is as immune as possible to viruses, or at least a built in updatable security that comes free, as they have the time to add that.

Yey! I removed the sig...

All the big wigs hoping to make a packet when vista was going to be released closer to Christmas.

I've never been too botherd about Vista. I'll just wait until it's been released and a few people have had the chance to use and review it before I consider buying it. The best way to go about these things imo.

and won't change my sig until I get off my oversized behind and finish a project.

Anyway, back on topic - more Vista queries :
Chkdsk - does it still have 5 passes ? Does it still try to fix non-existing clusters ? Does it still report false information when run from the command line ? Does the command line still exist ?

What about multi-tasking - has it become more efficient ? Is it still possible for one program to completely tie up the computer ?

What about Explorer ? Will it still crash if you try to look at a defective hard drive or CD ? Has the speed for looking at other networked computers been improved ?

What about the Disk Defragger ?

What programs currently work and dont work ?

Killswitch: That flashing siggy is really annoying.

I wonder how much Vista will cost anyway? XP is way expensive for an essential part of your computer. Imagine everybody spending £100 on your software. That's at least 20 million people.

you cant compare an os to software, as your likely to only buy a new os once every 3-5years(if your sane)
