We would like to start up a Level design competition.
Everyone who is interested please read the following:
This competition is open o anyone using FPSC
The competition is for one Single Playable level only.
The level must be built off of Commercially unrestricted content.
(In other words no cheating, lying and/or stealing.)
Prefferably games should be packed and ready for distribution.

The winner each month will have their Level hosted on a couple of sites (I'm trying to secure a prize,if anyone is interested in supplying a model pack, model or anything as a monthly prize ,please let me know.)

The games that are submitted must be available for download and can be any type of game/genre.
(Anyone who wishes to judge the competition along with me,please let me know.)
Levels will be judged on playability, fun and overall level design technique.
Closing date for the first comp is 15 May 2006

Gotta bring this back up to the top now. For anyone who hasn't been following the thread in the Chat section, check it out. I'm offering up my WWII Pack as a prize; and Bullshock has offered his ECS Pro as well. Let's get involved.

We could have several things for the winner to pick from each month; that way someone doesn't have to take something they already have/bought.

What we can do for the winners (in order to collect their prize), is to have them e-mail the administrator of the contest (better to have it displayed in your profile though), who will then forward the address to whoever holds the preffered proze package...we will in turn e-mail them their prize. Or something like that

Zaku,
Are you going to use Ozark Forums to host the files?Just One Old Man has it set up for you and when I get my level done that was where I was going to upload my level.
If not, please let us know what you want to do with the files so we can make whatever changes are necessary.

I think using Ozark would be very good indeed,I think we should extend the deadline to The first week in June for now, that should give everyone enough time to work on their levels
If everything is sorted we'l' start an official thread and finalize everything.
We still need a couple of judges.

My question is can we use stuff we bought like model packs 1 and 2?
I just want to make sure before i get too far into the level.

I think that needs to be established (as should the whole competition) as soon as possible.

Zaku:

Everything is set up at OG to get this started. Anyone who will be uploading a level just needs to PM me at OG for details. Because the files will be so large, you will need to use an FTP client to upload to the site. Any free FTP client will work.

I still need to know about added content.I can't finish my level for the contest because I would hate to have to take out a lot of stuff.I think I have the actual level design and lighting down.

okay.Since apparently I am not getting any kind of response for the creator of this contest I am going to make my WWII level any way I want and I don't want to hear anything about what I couldn't do.
I waited for some kind of guidelines, etc. but they don't seem to be forthcoming so I will design what I wish and upload it to Ozark Games.
Zaku,
I have made several attempts to find out what is going on and the only thing I think I know for sure is that the Deadline was extended until June 1 (maybe).
You have made a thread in three different forums about this contest. If you as the originator could either clarify what is going on or pass the reigns onto someone else I would be grateful.June 1 is coming up and we need to get it together fast.
I think the competetion is a great idea but nobody knows what is going on.

People could still have better resources than others, shouldn't it be a fully stock media level(including sounds etc.)?
This would make it truly fair.

That's one way of looking at it.Another way of looking at it is if I imported media into FPSC and it is either free and available to everyone and all they have to do is download it or I paid for the media like the FPSC model packs, etc. should I be able to use that too?
The rules aren't real clear.
Like I said I got June 1 as the new deadline and it is WWII based.
I don't know if he meant stock media only or if his statement meant media that you have a license to use. That is two different things.
I don't see why you at least couldn't use free media. If the person that enters the contest doesn't have that it is because they just didn't want to download it.
Zaku is the only one who can clear this up.I have no problem just using stock media.Whether I feel it is fair or not is beside the point.Zaku is running the competition and that is his decision if he chooses to make it.
We could agree to use stock media only or stock and free media only but if someone did not abide by the agreement we couldn't do anything about it unless Zaku makes it a rule.
So if we abide by the agreement and someone decides not to we could get shafted.
I think I will make my level into a playable .exe.At least if the contest doesn't work out maybe someone can have fun playing it.

It's possible ZAKU decided not to get involved, or other things came up that took him away from the forums. As of tonight there is exactly two weeks left till the 1st, perhaps if ZAKU isn't able to participate he wouldn't mind I Has taking over.

As far as content, I would think that paid for content may be difficult for everyone to come up with, but free content wherever it comes from should be admissible. Just my thought...

Okay. Then here is how we will do it.I withdraw from the contest and here is how it will work.
1.The deadline is June 1st unless contestants think they will have aproblem getting their level done.In that case I can extend the deadline.
2.The theme will stay the same.A simple, playable WWII level.
3.Only stock or free media can be used.Make sure you have a license to use the material. No cheating, please.
4.The single playable level needs to be an .exe and you can upload it to www.Ozarkgames.com.
To do that sign up as a member. It will only take a second. Then PM JustOneOldMan as per previous instructions. He will set you up with the necessary stuff.
If you were/are donating a prize to this contest e-mail me or get in touch with JOOM about the prize(s).
I need three people to volunteer as unbiased judges. If you are a judge you will not be able to enter the contest.
The winner of the contest will be able to decide what the next contest will be.
I hope Zaku gets in touch with us but if not I guess I will take over.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. you can e-mail me or post in this thread.
Good luck,everyone!

I has returned: As long as your not going to be a judge I don't know why you couldn't compete just because you're making up the rules. When I set up a golf tournament I compete. I think you should be able to play.

I'm going to start a thread under FPS Creator in the Game Engines Discussion for this. We can post anything about it there, and as I Has said, just PM me and I'll let you know how to upload your levels.

Now all we have to do is get people interested in the contest again.

I know.I just want to make sure that everyone understands this is fair and unbiased. It's easier on me that way.On top of that we only have one judge so until I am sure we have three in case they split their opinion we have a tie breaker I am going to have to wait and see.
Keith has generously decided to be a judge so that leaves two.
That and since I basically laid down the guidelines I feel it would be unfair for me to enter the competition although I do appreciate what you are saying and agree with it.
I might still enter my level into the competition.I just won't make it eligible to win.
I actually have a good prize to give away.i am just waiting to see if anyone wants to enter.
We have quite a few talented forum members that could make a good level.I hope some of them enter the contest.
We might have to extend the deadline again. We'll have to wait and see if people are going to need more time.
I have never run a contest before so I have no idea what I am doing.I guess I'll just make it up as I go along...lol.
