Any of you guys play Vietcong co-op with mates? I know it's an old game now, but it's still got the most realistic multiplayer co-op combat that I know of. Me and my housemate have been playing it for years, slowly refining our skills.

We play co-op levels - us two vs the vietcong. We started off by restricting ourselves to no respawns. So if one of us dies, they're out of the game. After that, we switched to no deaths. So as soon as one of us dies, we restart the level. That's really tough in Vietcong, but eventually we got it down so we could complete any level over and over again without dying.

After that we took the next step and started restricting our weaponary. Things like, we have to complete the whole level only using Winchester rifles or Remmington shotguns. Finally we got onto pistols and knives - we started completing levels only with pistols and knives, but that is damn hard. When you have three VC with machine guns and you've got a 6 shot revolver, you normally go down.

So we arrived at our final game solution to solve this problem. Don't let them shoot at us. Complete any level without the VC ever firing a single shot. How? Silienced pistols, knife kills and stealth. If you've not played Vietcong co-op before, that might not sound like much, but it is damn hard!

Anyway, I recorded us completing the whole Ambush co-op level in Fraps as evidence of our elitism. hehe. I'm uploading the first 6 minutes now! Will edit and add link in a bit.

Do we have any other elite Vietcong vets here?!

Edit: Here's the link. This won't look like much to non Vietcong players, but trust me, these guys normally spot you take you out pretty quick. You've got to get in there first, take them out in the right order and synchronise with the other guy on the other side of the map. If they get off a single shot, we have to reload the level.
Cong stealth (WMV)
It had to be 640x480 res 1Mbps else you can't see the enemy heads poking out from behind the bushes.

Addiction???? maybe. I think it's more that's its the best game we've found for two player coop. Basically we do 1 hour of exam revision, then a mission on vietcong. Fair play I think!

Edit: Ok, added link.

Not bad at all, Elite Ninja of Death! How many years, so far? If only I could possess your skill and eliteness in the CoD2 world, then I'd be flawless. A much better video than all those 1000 or so "i sniped a guy from 100 yards away omg im 1337!!". This shows your skill, teamwork, and most of all, ability to edit videos to make them more humorous than they should be

Almost 3 years patroling the swamps of Vietnam. 3 years man. I remember back when I was green as the grass - never even killed a man. Now I've got the blood of hundreds on my hands. Losing men to spike traps and smoking weed through a shotgun barrel takes it toll on the soul. Such is the way of nam.

You will prevail in WW2 my man. Just make sure you're at the back of the push when those nazis open up with their machine guns else you'll surely be .

Dude - just saw the video. VC is one of my favourite games (especially with the Fist Alpha addon). I play it at LAN's a lot with custom maps... But you... You have played it TOO MUCH. You were shooting things that weren't really there and all you hear is an "urrgghhh"!

Used to love the gsame, recently started playing it again untill I started dating a vietnamese chick and I thought maybe shooting VC's was something I should cut back on....

edit: Watched the vid, heck as such as nice, you nearly lostit there when you went to knife the guy but great work. ALso you may wanna not say "Gook" in your post it is kinda racially offensive!

Yes mate! You are right! I've been brainwashed by the X-4-7 (keyboard shortcut to say said racist word in Vietcong). Appologese to our vietnamese friends. Sorted.

And I can also see how playing Vietcong when you have a vietnamese girlfriend might be a tad awkward! I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem playing Return To Castle Wolfenstein while dating a neo-nazi chick.

@Nicholas
I know man! We played it to death, and I got bored of it and decided not to play it again .... and then my housemate started challenging me. "I bet we couldn't possibly finish NVA Base without dying using only bolt action snipers rifles fired from the hip." The rest is history! He bought Vietcong 2 which should arrive tomorrow. Apparently it is a bit lame in places, but he got it on budget so we'll see.

I have VC2 (legally I will add too... You'll see why in a minute) - I loaded it up, and while my mate was loading up his copy onto his machine I created a server just to see why it was like. 10 seconds after I joined my own server I got a message saying that there was a duplicate key in the game (me being the only person). We gave up shortly after that as when it kicked me out of my own game, it also shut the server down. Fantastic programming there guys!!

haha. That's rubbish! Vietcong has poor network code in my opinion too. It's the only game I can't create a server on using my new compo. It hangs the system. I also can't leave a game without hanging my system. I have to alt+tab to the desktop then end the program every time I leave a game!

heh use to play that game all the time with mates, agreed it does have the best co-op (Which happens to be my favorite mode in FPSs as I suck compared to everyone else I know).

I though we got pretty leet at it but I guess I was wrong, I'm off to hang my head in shame now (and reinstall Vietcong).

Ahh, all's good. Just remember, neo nazis are people too.

My housemate got Vietcong 2 today btw. Stupid programmers and have gone and made it impossible to play using the same game version on a LAN. I hate it when they do they. Fair play stop it via the internet to avoid cracked copies, but stopping you from playing multiplayer with your mates with a legit copy ....

Damn them to hell. What a waste of a tenner, cos the single player game looks shocking!

You're not running Zone Alarm by any chance are you? I have that problem with that game (and many others) if I run a paranoid firewall. Its not the fault of VC if the firewall blocks it... Assuming it is a firewall issue - it sounds like it!

My experience is better than that - it wouldn't let me join my own server I made due to the multiple copies thing!!!

Never mind eh? *wipes away the tears* We'll just have to start completing the levels while walking backwards and only using harsh language.

@Nicholas

Nope, dont have Zone Alarm, and firewalls are disabled before multiplayer games. It could be my on board LAN cards, although my gigabyte mobo is pretty swish.

And btw, the patch is supposed to address the issue of CDKeys causing problems .... apparently.

Btw mang, we should schedule more LFS action and drum up more LFS interest from Apollo. Me and Becky from Banshee have been LFSing a lot recently and even joined a racing league! If we can convert more Apolloians to the cause of LFS, not only would the world be a better place and children of all colours and nationalities would play kindly with each other, while all weapons would be destroyed resulting in a low humm of untold global harmony, but I would also have loads more rookies to whip!!!!

LFS people! LFS! And they've just introduced the BMW Sauber F1. Scarey. It moves like little Jimmy when he sat on a box of fireworks at bonfire night.
