While there are solutions, there isn't a single one that cannot be circumvented I'm afraid.

It's called scratch the disc. That usually stops people breaking into your files and copying them!

ROFL. Impossible if it's a DVD movie.

Basically the gist is, you can't properly secure *any* media from being copied. Proof of this is a quick visit to any torrent site where you can find any piece of software or game. Nowadays if you buy a game and try to copy the disc the traditional way, it will probably give errors due to standard copy protection. But where there's a will, there's always a way.

This is the sad truth for us developers--- people will always steal your game no matter how hard you try and secure it.

unless you make an online game the requires subscription then copying the client exe wont matter, or if you make the game free, but if your just wanting to make a backup then you could just encrypt them with a pass using winrar or something.

Like I said, it's impossible. No matter how hard you secure your content on media, it can be copyable. The trick is to make the content worth money in people's eyes. Case in point: I purchased Air's Talkie Walkie album a few years ago, and it came with a DVD of their tour. Things like this make people want to spend money on your disc.

Unfortunately, DVDs aren't any different than games, and I would argue that DVDs are easier to copy than software, because the standard is set in stone. If you want your DVD to be playable in DVD players, then by that same token it can be easily copied.

Could you not just add a watermark layer?

I have several CDs which simply cannot be read in a PC drive. How they do this I do not know, but it is very effective.
