It doesn't say anything about a proxy.

It says it's unavailable--- which means pretty much that. I've had this lots of times with the regular version of MSN.

This is why I don't use beta versions of MSN.

MSN 8 works fine here. Click troubleshoot and see what it says.

Right-Click on the Tray Icon, and Exit.
Restart.

et voila
It isn't hard, all of the MSN Messengers do it cause they use Network States to lock a connection for stability. Although it doesn't really work out that way if a connection is ever lost due to any reason. If it still doesn't work, then something is knocking out your proxy ability which generally means that ALL programs that require such connections are knocked out and rebooting the computer *should* resolve the issue.

Hardly rocket science, or hard to find this info in the MSN Troubleshoot help itself.

yeah i did say *should*, sometimes the issue is network related and so often you'll need to repair the windows connection first.

back down south i never had these issues, msn always ran just fine; but up here the connection seems quite dodgy for all messengers except Yahoo!... i swear that can run no matter what. often find it running even when explorer or mozilla can't find a connection.

Not sure if it's the same error code, but I got a similar error (the code part, like I said, looks similar--other than that, it's identical). The problem I had was that my date and time were completely wrong, so I had to reset it.

I've found the newest beta to be rock solid. The other crashed too much!

You could always just use MSN 7.5 until MSN 8 is released as a final, if you still get a problem then, email Microsoft or send them a bug report or something, there's no harm in waiting

Yey! I removed the sig...
