Hi guys,

i moved on to the NPC's for vol. 2, as requested. yesterday i finished the model of a skater/street style character to act as an NPC. and today i finished unwrapping the UV's and texturing it

there will be a range of NPC's, ones like this, and some with a more formal style (suits etc.)

well anyway:

hope you guys like, tell me your opinions or suggestions for NPC styles.

i'll be moving onto a female character next, perhaps for the more formal styles, i can make the characters hold something like a briefcase, like bond did with the zombie doctor holding the meat cleaver

cheers,

-Jon

Jon, I like your work, but I think I might go jump off a bridge because I cant uv map at all. My uv mapping really sucks.

Good texturing Jon! Depressing me, but yeah, good models.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it's larger than 600x120...

Hey Jon,
I love your work first of all. It is superb. I have a quick question though. How do you import the characters you create into FPSC?

thanks,

dont be depressed, it gets you no where

i think im going to write out a UV mapping tutorial soon, maybe it will benefit some people

EDIT:

duke, i export the character with the biped as a .X file, and then make the entity and the .fpe

fairly easy if you have max

EDIT 2:

higgins, if i do make a tutorial, would you prefer video or written, obviously a video one would be large, but perhaps more detailed.

Looking good.Good idea too.I don't think there are very many "normal" NPC characters available for FPSC.

@liz

thanks, im not sure on the amount of NPC's, there seemed to be a large request, but if im going to be making characters, its best for them to be important and interactive aspects of the game...

@i has returned

thanks, yeh, thats what people requested, i can see vol. 2 being pretty big at this progress

Looks great Jon, I also like your work. Especially the texturing. I can model characters (sort of) but I cannot texture them like you can. Keep it up.

thanks, texturing can be quite easy when you do it over and over, and learn new tools in the trade, photoshop is great for it.

glad you guys like

@Jon
What if I don't have max to export character with biped? This is the model I am trying to make into a character. Any help would be awesome. BTW you are getting very good at characters. Keep up the good work! I will definitely be purchasing your next pack!

actually, instead of doing the female model next, i have an alteration of the base structure to do, it will be another 'street' style NPC in a hoody, with a hat

i'll get some screens up later, its kinda late over here, and i dont want to start the UV mapping now...

dont worry, it is a low poly model your looking at which also helps for "outdoor" games when you need alot of pedestrians

Quote: "How about making a hobo/bum NPC, I love when I meet Hobos and Bums in the games I play"

hmm, that interests me....attack of the hobo zombies, lol

Quote: "Jon, any tips/ideas/[pointers on modeling heads?

i might write out a full character tutorial soon, the head of this model isnt actually that good, with low-poly its mainly down to the texture

thanks for the comments guys, i'll be UV mapping the hooded street NPC now

Looks fine Jon. I am not to sure about the hands and this goes for the other model too, but they look a bit long and pointy.

By the way, If you have any free time, would you mind emailing me any help on UV mapping?

tell me if it works

YES YES YES!!!! Awesome, looking forward to these guys. Hopefully they'll work without the skateboards also and you'll be able to fit in the civil servants (fireman, police offices, paramedic, doctor and such) also!

As for the second NPC, perhaps no brand/mark on his jacket?

well actually all i want to do is just put a .gif (transparent) overlay over an entire video

can you do that if i send the video and .gif?

i should warn you, you will be confused by the video, it is a prank for the last day of school

Quote: "As for the second NPC, perhaps no brand/mark on his jacket?"

perhaps, but im sure there are no copyright issues, for a video game NPC's hoody

if so, i'll remove it.

Quote: "Hopefully they'll work without the skateboards "

they never did, that was just an interesting render with a corepak vol. 1 entity

Quote: "also and you'll be able to fit in the civil servants (fireman, police offices, paramedic, doctor and such) also!"

yep.

I'm not worried about copyright at all, I just think it may look better without it.

Just one remark about both models. I've just noticed this, but the fingers seem a bit (well a lot of bits perhaps) to long. The model would look much better with shorter fingers, they seem out of proportion. It gives the models a bit of a creepy look, which wouldn't be to good for NPC's.

cheers Higgy

i'll do the civil servants next, then on with the business men and women. i think i'll start with the cop, im tempted to do a british cop, as uniforms vary in the states am i right? i'd better not plan this too much, study leave starts wednesday, and this is diverting from revision

Higgins, I'm sorry, I didn't read each post in this thread, so that's whay I didn'n notice it.

Quote: "i think i'll start with the cop, im tempted to do a british cop, as uniforms vary in the states am i right?"

Cops vary in each country. They're much different in the States indeed, but also in France (I really dislike their clothing and caps), Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and so on.

Perhaps you could create more generic like civil servants? They would be very recognizable, but yet not associated with any particular country. But, I'm not sure if that's workable at all, but it would be probably a good selling point.

yeh i know cops look different for each country, thats obvious, lol, i meant as there are many states and cities in america, ive seen a huge array of uniforms, compared to UK's two variations (i think)

i'll probably have to mix it as you said, go my own way, but use the concept of a british cop's gear (except helmet)
