Well, the other day I tried to burn a CD in iTunes and it wouldn't work. I discovered that whatever program I use, nothing can burn to the CD. And since it doesn't identify the error, that's all the information I can give. iTunes gives me this diagnostic report, however

Anybody know what the problem is?

your answer is in the text you have provided

Also I wont remove your signature file, you have to shrink its size.

Sorry bout the sig. The URL used to lead to a smaller image, but I recently replaced it without thinking about the forums. I'll get right on that.

Seondly, it used to work, but I just replaced by motherboard.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset.
Actually, I um... don't know what that means... (I'm more of a software guy)

iTunes has no problem importing CDs, or recognizing them, so so much for that part.

have a look at your motherboards manufacturer site for an update mate.

Thanks man, but no cigar. I hand over my PC specs, if it helps:

Motherboard: AS8-V [Abit]
Processer (though I doubt that has anything to do with it): P4
The CD-RW drive I'm having the trouble with is taken out of my old dell. The drivers for it are on here as well, but I can't reinstall them because the Dell CD only works on computers it thinks are Dells, and with all the work I've been doing on mine it takes it for something else. It's worked fine until now. The only thing I've done recently is replace the motherboard, but the drivers aren't the problem, it would seem.

cd burners are like $10 in the states and about $15 AUD.
perhaps invest in a new one if you cant get the drivers working.
perhaps invest in a DVD burner for a few more dollars.

the motherboard update should have resolved it.
perhaps the cd-rw manufacturers website has some info on your products faulty behaviour

service pack 1? update that crap man!

I don't think Dell has their own line of CD-Roms, but anyway there's no way for the drive to know if you have a Dell or not.

This is your cdrom model.
"NEC CD-RW NR-9300A"

NEC doesn't seem to have any support on their site for it.

Um...few more dollars for a dvd rw drive? they're about $60-70 more expensive, from what I've seen. And to a college student without gainfull employement, that's not a few...

I've been all over NEC - nada. The place is empty from what I can find

I don't think SP1 is the problem anyways, Phaelex.

Try the intel chipset drivers here

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

your incorrect mate.

Pioneer DVR-110 16XDVD-/+R/RW Dual Layer, 5XDVD-RAM(OEM Beige)(no software)$62.00 AUD = 47.9079 USD now thats from an australian vendor price.

LG 52X52X32 CDRW with software $30.00 AUD

you will find pricewatch.com to be even cheaper since It wont be adding shipping to australia.

as for a tool thats essential to completing your studies its well worth the investment.

I bet a dvd burner is cheaper then the sneakers you have on your feet.

@ Indi: Nope, I can't wear sneakers. And when I can, they're the cheapest I can get for my large feet; normally 30 USD, or less. Of course, the prices listed of DVD-/+/RW drive listed is eye opening, may have to have a little look see into that, though I would probably want decent processor and batter ram first.

Way ahead of you, the_winch. Sadly, that didn't work. I'm not interested in buying a new one, I have an external one from another computer sitting in my closet, but I'd like to try and fix the one I have before I up an install a new one.

It'd be nice if you could fix everything that way. If its broke, toss it out and get a new one. Though I doubt my gf would appreciate me setting her out on the curb.
