I just purchased DB (not the Pro version) and it just arrived in the mail. It will not install on my machine.

I have the following:
AMD Thunderbird 1.2 GHz
768 MB RAM
VisionTek GeForce 4 ti4400 128 MB video card (with the latest drivers)
Windows 2000 SP2
DirectX 8.1 - the DirectX diagnostic program says all is ok
60 GB of free hard drive space

The full install option seems to work until it gets to 12% or so. Then it says "CRC error - cannot install the following file: C:\Program Files\Dark Basic Software\Dark Basic\media\bitmaps\textures\real\stone\rock04.bmp"

Then it says I have to re-run the installer to completely install the software.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey,

The file is corrupted most likely. Do a minimum install and then go onto the CD and drag the media folder into where you installed DB. You'll probably find that rock04.bmp is corrupted though

It appears that the problem is with mt CD/DVD drive. On a hunch I the install from the CD-RW drive and everything is ok.

However, all the demos seem to flicker when I run them on my desktop (The AMD system described in my first post in this thread). I ran the same demos on my laptop (Win2000, PentiumIII - 800 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB ATI video card) and they do not flicker.

Could it be the GeForce4 does not like DB?
