See, in the UK our DJ's are annoying, in the US they are simply offensive .

Swap?

In fact, no swap, just take every radio DJ in Britain, heck - hunt them for sport if you like but take them!.

It serves him right for having an unnecessary character in his name.

I always thought Bucwild was the obnoxious one who should be kicked But what do I know, I stopped listening to radio when I stopped being a DJ.

"Shock jocks" are only popular in this country because we keep "child-proofing" life, and they offer us a venue to escape. No smoking in restaurants, no cursing in public, kitchens have little protective things on it, kids who can't swim can get little floater thingies on their arms... what ever happened to survival of the fittest? We don't want our kids to hear, see, eat, smell, or say anything that's deemed "bad" by society, and so we try to keep them from getting their hands on bad things, and when a couple of schock jocks cross the line, they get famous, because we as a society are looking to dirty up everything we've made clean and safe in the past 20 years. But when they really cross the line, we give them the boot, because the children may have been listening Makes you sick, dunnit?

the fat bastard threatened another person's 4 year old daughter and wife, saying vile stuff, threating to go to the daughter's school, and describing vile sex acts he'd perform on the 4 year old girl - he's lucky he didn't get shot. Arrest? He got off light.

I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago. I still listen to CD's... which I'm frightened to say is apparently a determination of my age, or so some people think

I only listen to talk radio (news station), and have since '99. Every single song from every single new band sucks.

I'd like to contest that using only the link in my sig.

After reading all the other posts, this guy sounds like a complete twit. Glad he got kicked.

imho the only station worth listening to on regular radio is 1190 AM (WLIB NY) Air America Radio. Aside from that I listen to Stern on Sirius Satellite Radio. The music/talk selections on satellite are just insane. Blows away fm radio hands down, and most of it is commercial free since its a non-ratings-based subscription service.

I couldn't agree with you more. On music, we'll rarely disagree

No, you should just work to make modern music better. It can be done. Back in the day we used to record analog. More actual labor went into it. If we can figure out a method of complicating digital recording, and if we can get groups to actually write their own music, then we might see a surge of talent again

THANK YOU, Cattle, for being the ONLY other dedicated liberal on TGC. Randi Rhodes rocks the house

Well I'd hope people knew I was doing that, my band practices over at the drummers house, and we and his dad HATE how bands are pretty much made in the studio. Sure, you could throw a billion effects to make you sound like a CD from Wal-Mart, but it loses its natural touch, and no longer becomes the artists creation, just processed music. I LOVE analog so much, it makes the music actually sound real.

@ Cattle: It's a liberal station so I'd just assumed you were also liberal

@ Saikoro: I am the proud owner of a 3/4th reel-to-reel deck. It sounds way better than any recording software EVER, imho Most of these bands sound exactly the same, so if you guys are trying to do something different, awesome

DJs are anoying anyway. Get rid of them, or at least take away their mics and just PLAY THE MUSIC!

And what is the point of morning shows? You get in your car and turn on the radio, and instead of hearing MUSIC all you hear on every station is lame jokes and jibber-jabber about absolutely nothing.

I don't even listen to the radio if I can help it.

DJs only play music, MCs are the ones with the mics. Sometimes people combine them.

@ Matt: It seems to me that a lot of people around my area are secretly tired of the metal and other type of music "scenes". Today, we went to go pick up a new bassist, check him out and whatnot, and the first thing he showed us was Mudvayne stuff. Ho hum. But after showing him our stuff, and explaining the need for melody x.x, he was able to show us some stuff he doesn't normally play, the melodic stuff that comes from his soul. And that is what we're after. Not players, but heart and soul musicians. He seemed to be really sick of all the metal bands hes played in, and all the tweakers he played in them with, but sees something in us. I enjoy metal as much as the next guy, but it's defenitely NOT what I aspire for. I also think you'll be pleased to know that I've been slightly inspired by your old friends Radiohead, hehe

AWESOME! It took some time but I was hoping it'd rub off on ya, hehe.

I think the main thing that's keeping me from creating a new band right now is that influx of crappy music that's super-popular right now. Most of the people I meet say stuff like "Yellowcard is the greatest band in the universe ever in history ever!" And I don't understand it. Back in the day, you had to have talent and ingenuity to make it. Then you needed a synthesizer keyboard to make it. Then you needed power chords and a double-bass drum pedal to get rich. Now, you just need someone to write a few crappy songs about how hard life is in the suburbs, a producer with a high-end computer, and some studio musicians. If you can't sing, don't worry, they have software to fix that so it's not a problem. Ben Folds wrote a song about this called "Rockin' The Suburbs," which didn't get a lot of airplay because he was poking fun at all of the crappy bands out there. I don't understand why a rock star needs to dance to have a hit record... teenieboppers ruin everything But if you record an album, I'll be the first person to buy it We need a new rock savior!

..But.. but whats wrong with Yellowcard ?

Quote: "I think the main thing that's keeping me from creating a new band right now is that influx of crappy music that's super-popular right now."

All the more reason why this is the perfect time. People are content with hearing x band and y copies of x band, but if you can bring something new to the table, you WILL get listened to and people WILL like it. Who was like Rush when they came out? Once they got their style, it was original, and they're still strong today. Who was Tool like? Metal indeed, but very progressive, and people bow at Maynards feet. Who was Radiohead like? If you write the music thinking about the music and not the money or the hit records, it'll all come in place. If you notice, people will pass of certian music because it's not "cool", which is why many people wont take a second or first look at country, jazz, blues, or anything else that isn't at least 20 years old. As much as I respect some of those genres, the truth is, is at the time they were popular, they were overplayed and marketed. Same thing will happen to metal, same thing will happen to emo. All there is to do is bring your soul through music, and people will listen to it. Innovation is everywhere, its all a matter of putting it together and delivering it.
