I liked Alien:Ressurection, I'd say Alien3 was the turkey, despite the cool setting and characters - could have been really good if they'd just forgotten CG.
Notice how in Aliens:Res they went back to more traditional special effects, same with AVP - it's clear that they need to give CG another 20 years before it'll look as good as puppets
.
One thing I love about the Alien series, is that the usual rules of sequels being crud does not apply. 2 is the best, 4 is better than 3, it's certainly not the norm, anyone seen Starship Troopers 2?!
I remember Event Horizon, completely not the movie I was expecting, much more like Hellraiser than Aliens. Can't say I thought very much of it, fairly average IMO, just not enough happening for me.
I mean, go into space looking for an old ship that you lost, spend all the special effects budget on blood and a big orb, then spend the rest of the movie showing the ord and have the characters describe the horrors they can see (because we cant!). No offence to those that like it, but really I'd rather re-watch the classics for the umpteenth time.
