Hello people. This is a w.i.p. for a project im making called War Cry. That is not actually the name, its a temporary one. Its basicly just a tech demo right now,nothing too special. There is physics,dragging if you are close,but the distance for that is set too far. There are two guns and a sword, i didnt create any of these models though. The textures are just bump-mapped ones,well,false bump-mapped textures. The level was taken from the newton physics buoyancy demo because i just wanted a simple test level. The game should be pretty moddable from where i have it right now. The ammo has no affect at this moment,and the swords range is too long.

Now to state all the sources of stuff:
Hamish McHaggis for the gun swaying

Models from a lot of things,if you see any that are yours just tell me,but those models are just temporary.

Textures from many various websites

Code : Me with a little the file parsing from The Black Out project.

note* all code but the file parsing and character movement in newton are mine. The character movement was based off of Walaber's fps demo.

Mind you,this project is nowhere near done.

suggestions to what is in the game now would be great.

If anyone whishes to help in anyway,just tell me.

To the story and idea:

The War Cry Project was started soon after i played The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. I was very moved by that game and i got the sudden urge to make a free rome rpg like that(the War Cry engine doesnt have much if any rpg stuff in it).

Story:



That is the introduction. Most parts during the introduction will be playable,if not all. You dont have to do what the man says. You can go and re-join the pirates and sail off with them.

Thats my story. And this is the end of my post,for those who have read all the way through.

Downloaded and played it...

It has potential. Nice models (though I didn't see much special effects)

Though I think the boxes on the floor have a little too less friction with the floor...

i got the pictures. also,here are the controls:
a = strafe left
d = strafe right
w = move forward
s = move backward
rightclick = drag object
leftclick = use weapon
space = jump
upkey = p90
downkey = iron broad sword
leftkey = sniper rifle

i didnt make the media if you do see any of it thats yours,just tell me. i just bump mapped the textures,and thats about it.

i got a fixed demo up. I only fixed the object dragging. I corrected some math problems so heavier objects are harder to drag,and lighter objects are easier. If you go too far away from the object you are dragging,you will drop it.

Looks pretty nice. When you make your own models, are you going to stick with these styles? Or make the swords and guns match a bit more?


Have you considered having a gun in one hand and a sword in the other? Damn, that'd be sweet. Hard to make though as a first person game.

Alright,i like the dual wielding thing. I can easily think of a way to do that, actually, i think it should be very easy. I may or may not use the same model style,seeing as I'm trying to find a modeler for my game. I think i have someone,but they may not accept. Also,eventually i will have a third person view as well. That should not be hard either. Wow,you guys have given me some good ideas to start working on tonight!

Anyhow, glad for the feedback, any other ideas are welcome

heh,had to comment those. Those are a couple images i took. The pallet got screwed up whilst in water with the pics,so it came out black on some parts. That was just in one bay. In the last pic,i had jumped,which shook the pallet too much. Thats how i was thrown off.

why thankyou The level will be re-textured,cuz i took a random terrain texture for the time-being. I like getting basics done before media. Also, I now have movement in water complete so you can float in water,and move in any direction.But you cant jump in water,like some games(yes,those are glitches though).

@Opposing force - heh, i just realized what you meant. The name has nothing to do with farcry. And thats not the name for the game,thats just the project name. Im really going for an elder scrolls 3 and 4 feel to my game.

Ok, well,im posting two links to the new demo. Takes place on Crevice,nothing too special. Just to show the water in action. The water is nothing beautiful by the way. Its horrible in my eyes,but oh well.

@ BENOJ - When you click free, you have to wait a certain amount of time. It will have a countdown,then a box will come up. It will have letters you have to type in,then you can download it. I know,its in-convenient,but i dont know of any free file hosting websites that are good at the moment.

Ahh thats the problem then benny. I cant install the upgrades cause they always give me errors at installation sad really.

Actually, the game crashes for me too, with the exact same error. I suggest you look into it and fix it (Test your code before you submit, for crying out loud!).

i do test my code. Frequently. It works fine for me. Do you have directx 9.0c latest update? Do you have 5.9? Actually,i dont think the dbp version would have anything to do with it. Well,looking at what i have,i think i have two direct x's on my computer...wierd. I have 9.0 summer update and i have 9.0c. Not sure if they are the same type of update. But i know the game works on my pc cuz i just ran it. And my computer sucks more than anyone elses. I can guarentee that.

How about you download the program and try the executable yourself? I'm almost positive it's that. My computer has the right version of DirectX installed.

*cough*, its amazing how many games use the media i allowed davidt to use isnt it , however i dont care as those models are very old and pretty low quality imo, but im actually considering making a modern weapons, weapon pack, since fps games are very popular(i myself love them) and there arent many fps guns lying around.

@FoxBlitzz - downloaded,tried it,and it worked. I even used my friends computer.

@David T- yeah,the models are just placeholders. I'm,although,not quite sure where i got that model... It may have been from the Blackout game. But it will be replaced eventually,and it will not appear in the final game.
