Does BBC in the UK play different stuff from BBC America? I really liked the show "My Hero" (and I'm probably the only person in the world who did) before it got canned. "Peep Show" is friggin' hilarious but it's only on at 5:00am and then 5:30am here in the states. They used to show Eastenders, too, but that show seems to have vanished as well. Do you Brits get to see these shows still? Is there some magical website I can go to where I can download them? And before anyone says it, yes, I looked on stupid Google Honestly, Little Britain is funny but I can only take so much of a "lady" puking on everything

Dunno. We don't see BBC America. This is the full list of channels we get:-

BBC One
BBC Two
BBC Three
BBC Four
CBBC
CBeebies
BBC News 24
BBC Parliament
Interactive TV

They also do other channels that cover classics (which I think is what BBC America is like) and things like Animal planet.

My Hero was alright. Didn't know it got canned, but it is a bit old now, so probably just eventually died. Peep show is slow as hell at bringing out new series, but Eastenders is like neverending. We *never* stop showing it. You are probably getting stuff from 10 years ago.

Some programmes can be downloaded (like IT crowd from Ch4) but normally only to UK residents (they keep on trying to justify paying the TV licence - BBC don't show adverts is the biggest).

Also what do you mean "BBC America different from Channel 4"? Channel 4 is a completely different company to the BBC.

Cheers

yep its different.

CNN is different too. In fact there are multiple Cnns within the continental US. If all the ministries of truth all told us the same thing there would be some agreement on what the truth actually is.

If americans had watched the european version of CNN, for example, they would have know thne Iraq war was based on a pack of lies way back in March 2003. Just like the Europeans did.

Instead they had to wait a couple of years to get that "news".

Peep Show was actually shown on Channel 4 here in the UK, so BBC America must have bought the rights.

Channel 4 here is another tv channel that probably challenges BBC 1 and 2 the most. It had Friends, Big Brother and lots of other high profile american dramas. As a general rule the BBC tends to show british stuff only, as well as films.

BBC american must be a mixture of BBC's shows plus other shows such as peep show. BBC America is an actual commercial venture, so I suppose they can afford to buy in programmming.

You can get the Peep Show DVD, probably My Hero as well.

If you like surreal comedy, then The Mighty Boosh is awesome too.

We have cr**py Eastenders on every day in England. BBC is not too popular really. They canned DR Who when it was very popular, and now that they have bought it back it is one of their top programmes once again. They tried Davina as a chat show hostess when she clearly struggles on Big Brother at interviewing the contestants. BBC is mostly boring. One Foot in The Grave, and Only Fools and Horses, are two more great shows from the BBC that have been taken away, but that was because the actors were showing their age. If you can get them in America you should deffinately watch them.

What about the freeview box? I have that, but not the full set of channels. Anyway, I buy so many DVD's that it's a waste of time getting the movie channels.

It's that black box people used to play video-games on before they realized that PCs were the way to go.

Don't think so. BBC America is part of the channel lineup I posted above (but didn't add because we were talking about it). So they are the BBC basically with all their massive amount of money. I would imagine it is more likely that they can buy whatever old repeats from whatever channel they want then send them to the US. If they did the same here and aired them on a BBC channel then it would be kinda strange for us to see old Channel 4 programmes appearing when they still show on Channel 4 (or whatever channel). If you see what I mean. Smaller cheapo channels (eg. Paramount) can do the same sort of thing though (Suburban Shoot Out for example).

By the way, anyone know when Monkey Dust is coming back? Awesome comedy. Almost as good as Jaaaaaaammmmmm....

I seriously doubt it if you live outside the UK (licence payer and all that) and haven't got around it somehow. Unless it's a special trial or sommit.

I assumed BBC 4 and Channel 4 were the same thing, I didn't know.

Quote: "but Eastenders is like neverending. We *never* stop showing it. You are probably getting stuff from 10 years ago."

I dunno, they stopped showing it here a while back, or at least it's never on when I'm watching TV. Ed vs. Spencer seems newer though. They referenced the Chronicles of Riddick in a recent episode where they tried to see who can get more famous (Ed cheats at everything, I love it!) and that was the most modern thing I've seen on the BBC other than the news, hehe.

Quote: "If americans had watched the european version of CNN, for example, they would have know thne Iraq war was based on a pack of lies way back in March 2003. Just like the Europeans did."

I'm an American and I knew the war was phony back in 1999 when I heard that George Bush's son was running for president. I think I said that on my website somewhere back then, too, hehe. "If GWB wins, we'll be at war in Iraq by 2004, but this one will last until 2009 at least." Spooky

Quote: "What dont you all just come out and say you hate America all ready"

Liking the BBC doesn't mean I hate America, and neither does my disliking, distrusting, and disapproving of the President. But this IS NOT a political thread, so I assume you meant me liking the BBC

Quote: "One Foot in The Grave, and Only Fools and Horses, are two more great shows from the BBC that have been taken away"

They're showing commercials on BBC America for One Foot in the Grave as if it's a brand new show: "The West Wing meets The Office" and a bunch of other stalwart reviews like that. I didn't know everything on BBCA was so old!

Quote: "I have a shameful secret - I don't have cable television."

But how do you get internet access? And how do you live without American Idol?!? (kidding!)

Quote: "It's that black box people used to play video-games on before they realized that PCs were the way to go."

I think consoles dominate the game market... or at least I thought they did. WE love PC games because (a) we're programmers, and (b) we're smarter than everyone else, but everyone else isn't that smart and doesn't see the true potential of PC gaming

Sorry for yet another gigantic post

I do wonder why you thought that - one is a commerical company, the other is paid for by idiotic TV viewers, ie us, to show nothing by boring soap operas. And they have the cheek to want to increase the TV license.

The only think you'll get that isn't old, could be Dr Who - and that wont be for a while. HA HA HA HA!

Probably the big "4" at the end credits of every BBC show I've ever watched... that made me assume it was channel 4 in the UK. I didn't know there was a difference between BBC 4 and Channel 4 (I didn't know "channel 4" was an actual company, I assumed BBC 4 was on channel 4 and that they sometimes refered to it as Channel 4)

Ah, I was slightly wrong, BBC Worldwide is the overarching commercial side of the BBC. It owns and runs its commercial ventures: BBC World, America, Canada, Japan and co-owns UKTV.

I think its quite interesting to see the other side as opposed to the state run broadcasting arm.
