ATI makes a lot of video capture cards... basically, it's a video card that works like a normal video card, but you can plug cable, RCA plugs (red/ white/ yellow), S-Video, and even Component video into them, so you can watch TV on your PC. I have a cable box connected directly to my PC, so I can watch TV, burn it to DVD while I watch it, or save it to my hard drive for later viewing. Most of those cards are between $75 and $200, depending on the quality of the card.

Well do you want to watch Internet Television like Winamp ([href]www.winamp.com[/href]). Or do you want to watch real TV stations on your computer? If so, how much are you willing to spend?

or if you dont want to install/buy a new card you can buy a locationfree player.

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=LFPK1

which works on up to 4 pcs or psps.

Another option is if you have windows media center and an x360 you can hook up your pc to your 360 and get it that way. Im under the impression (tho i am prob. wrong) that vista comes with media center.

There are stand-alone PCI cards specifically for TV/video input.

I've been using TV/video capture cards for years, and if you shop around you can get a barebones card for $30 that also recieves FM stereo.

If you are looking for NTSC-quality capture, S-Video, HDTV compatibility or other state-of-the-art features you are going to spend hundreds of dollars.

They also make USB TV/video/FM capture cards for about $100, very handy if you have a laptop, although the picture quality over USB is not spectacular.

Well how do you expect to connect the coax cable to your computer? (or even RCA for that matter) The cable modem doesn't send tv signal to your computer.

I've been able to plug RCA audio jacks into a computer through the cunning use of RCA to 1/8" adapters.

I have Coax, RCA, S-Video, Component, and Mini-DV ports in my computer, but they're built-in to the front and back of the Vaio. The video card only has Coax, S-Video, and RCA directly. I still haven't used the component because I don't see a point in watching hi-def on a computer screen But the S-Video and Coax come through fine, either on the card directly or through the case's ports in front or in the back. I don't know how Sony hooked that part up though, I haven't really inspected it much.

I can do audio as well through my SB platinum cards, my video only has s-video out, no inputs. I used to have a voodoo 3 3500, the one with the a/v pod.

I have an adapter that plugs S-Video, Coxial, Composite(r,y,w) into my computer. I use it to play my Gamecube and PS2 without leaving my computer!! I would watch TV, but I don't have a coxial cable long enough to reach to my computer.

You can find them at Radioshack for about $100

LOL, it is insane what they charge for those "converters", all it takes to convert from s-video to rca and back is a small five-cent capacitor and a five-cent resistor hooked across the two signal leads!

The RYW scheme isn't that complicated either. Totally NOT worth $100 to convert.

it would involve pirating the cable companies signal as a second node which you usually have to pay for.

Since this is piracy in another form

click.
