If they did this, there'd be massive protests in the streets. I doubt it'll happen. Private citizens make up the majority of the ISP's earnings, hands-down, outright. Think about how many millions and millions of people use the internet, and then think about how many companies there are. We win, they lose, and this is bulls**t that will never grow into anything more than speculation. I'm taking bets from those who disagree

what i'm more concerned with is that they seem to think the american congress own the internet. The internet is worldwide, you can't just ban access to other countries as well with some shoddy American legislation.

That's the administration for you... America is, in GW's eyes, the only nation on the planet, and poles and "fur-in-errs" don't matter. But don't blame me, I voted for the other guy (not that he won the first election in the first place )

This is more of a conspiriacy video than anything. Nothing like this is ever actually going to happen. Most of the news clips they have aren't even directly related to each other...sigh. This is stupid.

First time I've seen this. If some companies did manage to make the internet a private network (yea, right. its too global for that), its only a matter of time before a new public internet is formed. One which I believe is already being planned. Can't remember who, MIT maybe?

You guys are acting like you have a fundamental right to the Internet--- guess what, you don't. The companies that actually laid the wires and pipes into the ground--- hundreds of thousands of miles, think they should get a bigger piece of huge site's revenue (Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc.). To play the devil's advocate, why should Google be getting what is a "free" ride?

And like that guy in the video said (Timothy Wu I think his name is)-- is that if you were the gatekeeper to the Internet, why *wouldn't* you want to do this?

And Phaelax--- you try making your own private Internet when AT&T, etc. actually physically own the cables you use to send data. What, you're going to lay your own wire across America?
