is there a way to make the fog go over the empty areas of my 3d world?

the fog in my game now looks sweet (thanks to suggestions in the other thread) but it looks stupid when the fog just cuts off over the empty areas...

make some ghosted plains and texture them with misty looking stuff. Then make sure they always face the camera and move them about all drifty like in the blank areas - no time to go into detail sorry
