I was having some severe PSU issues and it was starting to stop working. I have the stock 420watt PSU from the AOpen XBlade case. It was a good PSU considering it lasted 3 years without a single hitch but lately it was kind of giving up on me sad to see it go. So, being the cheap me I am, I saved up $40 and got the ATADC 550watt PSU just because it looked so sexy.

Yea thats sexy isnt it.

Problem is, I cannot find a single review on it and I saw one real quick on google but the sites down and all I saw was it had poor ampage but when I googled it again, it was gone. I wanted to see if i could finally use my x850XT that had issues due the old crappy PSU but I wanna kno if anyone else has ever used this or knows anyone that has and knows if its any good. But it is sexy and onl $30 with shipping .

Sorry but NEVER buy a PSU just because of the way it looks! It'll only end in tears. I'd recommend a decent brand, one that won't go tits-up on you, like a Seasonic, Hiper or Tagan, but they'll cost significantly more than $30.

You get what you pay for, 'n all that jazz.

If your PC is quite low spec (no SLI, only a few internal devices, i.e. one hard drive, two DVDs, etc) then you should cope with a low spec PSU quite well. If your PC contains more than this, invest a little more $$$ and know it'll cope with it all.

Personally, I'd go for one of those Antec NeoHe PSU. Up to 85% efficiency. Believe it or not, my 430w TruePower is only rated at 69%. Tells you how old it is. But still runs strong after 5 years of 24/7 use. Antec all the way!

Though if price is a major concern, Antec isn't for you. But a good PSU can really make a difference in system stability.

Also, most PC's don't need 400w and even a 350 is sufficient for most. Only reason I bought the 430 so long ago was I was running dual processors and 3 harddrives.

But there's a lot of bargain PC parts out there that'll run just fine for people.

So far it runs perfect. But the x850 is still having issues but I noticed the different molex connecters have some different ampages and ones better then the other so maybe thats why I am having issues. I only have 1 CD/DVD, 1 HD, 4 fans, and an x850 so it works like a breeze and is sexy. Turns out ATADC doesnt make it they just repackage it. Its made by real pcpower which is a decent company. But so far so good.

My mate got one of those cheap ass PSU's... One day he switched his PC on and there was a VERY loud bang, a large flash and then silence soon followed by a kind of child like sobbing...

See, the cheap PSU decided to dump all its power down the line and fried the CPU, Memory and graphics. The Hard disks didn't seem to mind it, although it did die a few months later - probably related but who knows!

Moral or the story - the PSU is one of the few things you skimp on price.

@Phaelax - you're right, 350 is fine for most - but its a real kick in the nuts when you realise that if you'd spend £10 more for the 450 then you could be able to put that Geforce 9500GTX graphics card in that they'll make next year but you cant because the 9500GTX is so famous for being a power hungry beast..... However, bear in mind - the more power the PSU has, the more power is has to dump in your computer WHEN it goes wrong!

I bought a nice gold plated PSU with 3 fans and 650watts (might have been 600 watts, can't remember). No lights but it looked the biz (plus I don't own a transparent case, so no loss there).

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

I use an Enermax Liberty (600W I think)... Its the one where none of the cables are attached but instead come in a seperate pouch... Dont need 8 molex cables? Dont matter, only plug in the 5 you need. All the cables are braided with a black and yellow cover which looks really nice... This is a pic of my PC with the room lights on...

very nice. is that a LianLi?

btw, turns out that it was the old PSU finally dying making my x850xt not work properly. With this PSU, it runs amazing. Plus lol, i found out that the ATADC power supply I bought actually is from some other company lol. liars. but its amazing and looks amazing. Ill post my comp later because its under construction. Its an xblade but without any plastic on it so it kinda its just a hunk of glowing metal with alot of fans and a 3 foot CPU fan (AC Freezer 64 Pro) its a beast.

Why would someone care how their CPU looks? Not like you look at it while at your PC...

ahhh, too many lights!

My pc currently glows blue, but thats only because the store only had colored fans and my geforce has a blue light on it. It's kinda nice, at least I know when a fan stops working.
