Ahh, i see the rules have changed... First you ask what is the next number in the sequence and now you say we have to tell you how the logic came about? Cheapskate.

5) too tired to have a real guess.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

I add all the numbers together in the order they are displayed on their line and get:

15
19
42
19

So, Essentially, with this method the next set of numbers would have to equal 15, but not the same set of numbers as the first. And it would require a 2 and a 7 since 2 and 7 are the common with all the numbers. Also has to start with a 2 since all the numbers do.

So there are probably several answers, so I'm just gonna say 2715.

Of course, thats just my best guess.

Edit: There is nothing about this that derives any intelligence, it only tests your ability to look for and find patterns.

@eric however if the numbers are

15
19
42
19

then couldnt the next number be preety much anything? if it was

15
19
42
19
15
19
42
19

i'd aggree, but essentialy it just shows that 19 is repeated not the 15 and 42. the next awnser could equal 69 since thats the sum of 15 and 42... with this reasoning you could say all the digets multiplied togeather in one number is divisable by 4, that doesnt mean 28 is the awnser. The thing that bothers me are the 3 extra numbers in the 3rd number. The key is probrobly there.

i say 2725

I'm looking at the vertical pattern in relation to the horizontal patterns given. In the first column, it's all 2's, so naturally the first digit is 2. In the second column, it begins with two, but the sequence is linear after that with 456, so 7 seems the be the next logical digit. In the third column, 2787 suggests the next digit will be symmetrical, so 2 is the logical answer. In the fourth column, the sequence 7464 suggests that 5 is the next digit. There is no fifth digit b/c not enough data is available using my method to derive a digit.

I like indi's answer of "5" though, b/c that IS the next list number

what about the 3 extra numbers in 3? why would such important info be given if it wont be needed. remember it is a sequance, the curent numbers must have a relation with each other.

edit - apprently this is some stupid neopet's thing, all the kiddies are asking it on yahoo awnsers.... sigh

Yeah, I looked and saw some guy thought of it the same way I did...

I like your sirfire, but... I don't seem to understand how you derive 5 to be the last digit. Elaborate?

Eric T:
7464 is the vertical sequence, taking this pattern by itself, it seems to be part of a larger pattern of 948474645444342414, so I went with 5.

Quote: "what about the 3 extra numbers in 3?"

I treat any digits past 4 as "noise" data, since no digits past 4 exist in the 4th sequence.

Although a striking similarity exists between my answer and Eric T's answer.

I think there are many ways to derive the next number (and all with different results), the way I did it just seems most obvious to me.

If you put the numbers in as decimal and run a series 4 polyfit yeilding the equation of

y = 0.0018 * X^3 - 0.0178 * X^2 + 0.0652 * X + 0.1735 (aprox)

the answer comes out to be
2795 (aprox)

Unfortunatly I only have Excel to do my math calculations for me instead of Matlab so the answer is off [I am not certain how to extract points from the graph, but on a good calculator you should beable to get any graph that follows the polynomial 'way' by using polyfit.]

Why view it as decimal? Because then you have an increasing series.

HOWEVER, the correct answer is...

Quote: "22272 = acara
24742 = aisha
25862766 = blumaroo
2674 = bori
bruce = 27823"

i say it can be any number becouse any given sequence of numbers, any real number that follows could logically be the next one. but if it is an exact number it whould be 15 probably

i think
