Will there be a next competition for dbc or dbpro?
I noticed that they held competitions more for fpsc...
(I'm waiting for many months... and i missed the "horizontal shooter with boss" competition...)

We hadn't had a good one since Alienware. We need a new cool competition to promote the creation of more modern looking games, retro stuff gets boring.

He's looking for an official one from TGC I would assume. And I agree with megaton.

Well thats another thing altogether, but having said that, they're talking about offering prizes for the text adventure compo.

Megaton does have a point. All the compos do seem to be retro stuff, but maybe there's a reason for that.

Let's have an RPG contest...

TGC usually does retro competitions, probably because they're easier to make. TGC should encourage the new technology to be used, DarkVoices, DarkAI, etc. If a group of great games with new technology came out, it would be a great advertisement for DBP.

Yeah, I'm really hoping for a contest from the tgc to be anounced soon... Like the june news letter maybe? Something really worth coding for, and starting over the summer so I'll have the time to.

An rpg contest would really spark my interest, but it's probably too much for the average coder... I'd like to see a really open ended compo... one where I could make an small rpg or 3d platformer...

Edit: I sent rich an e-mail asking about this... Not sure what I expect him to tell me, but I felt like asking.

I would hope there is NOT a compo soon.

There is currently the Caiman compo going on where quite a few DBPro and DBc games get entered. They are all CASH prizes aswell, with a $50 cash prize for EVERY game entered so long as it gets 60% or more rating.

Also on the 1st of June the infamouse Retro Remakes Compo starts and there are some HUGE prizes up for grabs this year. TGC are also one of the sponsors. There is a prize for EVERY game.

If TGC does an official compo I would prefer it if it was at the end of the year, possibly over Christmas,

An Xmas compo would be pretty cool, a lot can be done with snow .

Personally I'm looking forward to the text adventure competition, nice to have a project where I don't spend 90% of the time worrying about media .

I think an interesting theme would be pong. As many pong-esque remakes as you can handle.

Well that's sort of my problem, there's never really any compos for the artists.

We haven't done a retro compo since 2004. There is nothing 'retro' about puzzle games, they're one of the top selling game genres in the world today. The 'snake / op wolf' style compo wasn't a case of 'make it retro' either, there was plenty of scope of originality, which a number of contestants managed superbly.

I guarantee even if we hold a 'next gen' style compo, people will still enter 'retro' style games. It just happens.

Anyway, there will be no large compo for a good few months yet, they are an extremely large amount of work to organise, and we'd need to secure prizes etc to make it worth while. For now we're giving some prizes to the text adventure + Retro Remakes compos to keep you all going for the next few months. We'll also probably run a small Dark AI specific compo soon, but the next 'big' one won't be until summer time at the earliest, and don't be surprised if it isn't all to do with physics either.

I figured as much. Seems great for TGC.

This sounds interesting. I'm sure I'd enter, depending on the specific contest criteria.

Summer apparently starts around June/July, but in the UK it skips from spring straight to autumn Maybe next year?

Looking forward to a contest, haven't really entered in one yet. I vote for an RPG or Horror theme contest

i think one involving physics would be good, howver it would be asking too much for that to be mandatory so the plugin would need some sort of a 60day trial or something.

I don't know much about Dark Physics (at all actually-I keep meaning to read up on it but never do), so I may be talking out of my arse here (if so, ignore me).

As far as I'm aware, Dark Physics hasn't been released yet. Wouldn't it be a good idea around the time of its release to have a competition using a demo version? The prize could them be a copy of the product.

This would encourage more people to try the demo, and those who don't win would then have a very nice idea of what it is capable of (compos always bring out the best in people), so would buy it anyway.

Just a thought, though I've no idea what I'm really talking about, so feel free to point and laugh if I'm talking complete rubbish.

A physic compo would be cool. I would love to make a platformer involving physics.

Must be a diferent south England to the one I knew then. The one I knew had exactly two weeks.

Need path finding in your games? Have a look at the tutorials on www.telefonica.net/web2/paskyprog/.

...Hmm. I have an idea for a great compo game, but the physics would mostly have to do with the character. Mainly momentum, as the game would be all about speed. I think we should have a speed compo. The games would have to play fast. Really, really fast.
