hey,

I was just wondering when the second volume of that DBPRO book will be coming out? Also, Johnath Harbour is finishing up his second edition of DBPRO GAME pROGRAMMING...derived from the first book.

The reasons why I ask and post this is cause:

BlitzMax looks cool but acts kinda quirky on my 2 computers. At least the demo trial version does. But mostly, I don't think BlitzMax 3d module will ever come out.
Also, I and along with others have been waiting way,way over a year for Cobra to come out. Its been a very long time. the 'powers that be' seem to be very secretive and elistist and especially that they keep plugging a way on the belief and assumption that they want and like a product thats bug free and has all the quirks and glitches come out. You can work on this for years until the cows moo and fart...and then they come home. Yet, people will move on to the next, latest and greatest programming language, game engine and tool. And also that when the Cobra programming language is eventually released.... bugs and quirks may still appear and pop up as well.

So....I have given June 15th of this year as a deadline and for me. If it comes out on or before June 15th...then I will download and try the demo version. true. If it comes out sometime later or not at all....then, I'm going full focus on both Pure Basic and DBPRO.
also, I'll be checking out all the full versions of the Cold Steel engine too.

I like and want Cobra. But, I don't think Cobra will be coming out this year. We shall see. So, I'm staying and sticking with both Pure Basic and DBPRO. true.

cheers,

It's a good time to be using DBPro, I mean this month we'll have Dark Physics, and Dark AI is already out. I can't wait to see what the physics plugin is capable of, plan to impliment both DarkAI and physics into my FPS project - should make about 50% of my code redundant!.

I think a lot of blitzers switched over to platforms like Torque, where they probably still are. Cobra looks a bit narrow-guage for me, like too specific because I don't think the creators are looking at the big picture, they have their way of doing things and that's how Cobra, and therefore everyone who uses it will do things too. I'm a square peg dammit!.

As for BlitzMAX, well how long did we hear about how much BM was gonna own all? - and it still has no real 3D engine!
Yeah I get a sick pleasure in that - we're kinda left alone these days to get on with it, no troll attacks like we used to have, it's bloomin tranquil round these parts compared to 3 years ago.

What does it have? I only ask because I derive a sick pleasure from it as well, I just haven't done any reasearch outside of DBP for a while now.

2D .

Now, no disrespect to 2D, but for a new language designed to replace Blitz3D and not have a 3D engine, well I don't have to tell you .

The defense was always that it'll be able to utilise 3rd party engines. Frankly Mark Sibly should take some time out to consider what he's trying to sell, if he's really trying to sell a 2D language that is Mac and PC cross-platform, then he shouldn't be selling to the same customers.

yeah,

I hear ya and agree with you, Van B.

and in talking about Blitz3d....I'd much prefer coding in Blitz3d rather than BlitzMax. Yet, I'm just stale on Blitz3d right now....and its stale on me too. true.

I'm really looking forward to those next up n coming books...that second volume DBPRO book and also Jonathan Harbours' second edition on DBPRO Game Programming.
Yep, I'm sticking with both DBPRO and Pure Basic. Yet, we shall see if Cobra comes out on June 15th. Hopefully...
Little dissappointment now...cause I'm probably going to getting either the Hydra development kit from Parallax. Their web site for the Hydra cel processor is at www.parallax.com/propeller
and also Andre LaMothe is going to release the Hydra game console(home computer) in a few months as well. And I'm not talking about the multi-headed Hydra beast of anceint myth and lore.

cheers,

My basic approach is that I'm just not going to wait for anything. There's always something new coming out, and nothing ever lives up to the hype that its marketing department generates. Plus, new products will lack a community and will have bugs. DBP is well developed, has tons of additions, and has a great community.

Hi Power Mousey, nice to see you post here. I've read just about every post in the Cobra section of the Codersworkshop and am eager to see a release. Unfortuantly though, Grahme has got to meet the expectations of a lot of people with all the hype about it. Most of this hype is just from speculation over what features will be in the language.

But DBP is the place to be right now. DBP is as stable as it has ever been, even the help files have been improved and are finally getting some attention from the developers(Alternativly, there's the dbp-help.com site that also provides documentation). Not to mention, multiple monthly tutorials in the newsletter

Dark Physics will use Aegia's physX system which will put DBP on par with the big boy engines. Don't want DBP Physics, try the already built in (and open-source) ODE or download the Newton Game Dynamics wrapper.

Dark A.I. is now availiable which takes some load off developers where enhancements may be made elsewhere. There's also many other plugins availiable for DBP such as Blue to rapidly create windows applications.

Basic to basic for you? Then try DarkSDK and get access to C++, or use the SDK as a learning tool by integrating all of the DBP commands.

Shaders are the future, and DBP has many developers who've already created a wide range of shaders. DBP is one of the few languages BASIC languages I've seen around having such an extensive list of 3rd party shaders due to its large community.

I know I've rambled a bit, but there's just so much great stuff going on. So yeah, I'll try Cobra out as well out of curiosity, but DBP is really coming along.

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.
