Don't know where you got that idea that most PCs you get off ebay won't work. If you buy off respected people, with adequate feedback, who offer some sort of guarantee/warantee, you shouldn't have a problem at all.

http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10288539&pid=5&rstrat=3169Try Savastore. I've dealt with them before and they are pretty good. That link above has a half decent processor, but is totally configurable. Got it to about £320 with a similar spec, but with an AGP card rather than integrated rubbish.

Oh yeah, forgot about where I bought my last PC (Mesh). This one looks pretty good.

http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=94045
Note it has a dual core processor and 17" LCD (don't think the Comet one has a display).

Cheers

If you configure the Mesh without a monitor then you knock almost £100 off the price.

Ugh, thats waaay too much money. I just built the same PC from newegg parts for half the price! (using xe.com conversion rates)

£379.99 = $715.11

The machine from newegg parts, major difference is I didn't use shared memory for the video card.

Ahh, thats the super overclocker cpu there. The cpu in that machine can be overclocked to 4.1mhz and out-perform the pentium extreme 965.

Mesh was similar to the NewEgg, but dual core. Cost $624 but included tax. Even so, can't imagine the NewEgg costing more than $400 even with tax. This is because it's in the US and Mesh is in the UK. ie. we get totally ripped off here. And if we import then they screw us on import taxes.

I just bought two computers from Ebay... one intenfully and the other because I'm a %$@@#$%$-%$@!!@#$$ing $#@ @#$$@@#)( #$$#@#$%!!@#$ moron who #$#@!#$#*&^%*#@ and loves every minute of it... okay, maybe I'm not a #$#@!#$#*&^%*#@ and I don't really enjoy it, it tends to hurt, but anyway...

The Dell I bought my girlfriend is brand new. On the Dell site, its going for $400 and something, and on Ebay, I got it for $200, and that's including the shipping. The other one was used, and slightly older, but I got that one for about the same price as a 17" monitor... and it just so happens that it came with a 17" monitor. To get a good computer on ebay for cheap, just follow these very simple rules of thumb:
1. Don't buy from a seller named "dbxtl"
2. Check their feedback, and not just their score... actually read comments and if they had negative feedback, hunt it down and see what it was
3. Don't buy a computer that has more than $80 in shipping costs unless it comes with a monitor as well... that's a big scam on ebay
4. Don't buy from a seller named "dbxtl"
5. Make sure you get a shipping number, and try to get it shipped via Fed Ex because their a lot better than the crappy US Postal service
6. Don't buy from a seller named "dbxtl"
and last but not least...
7. Don't buy from a seller named "dbxtl"

Follow those basic rules and you'll be hunky-dory

Edit: Oh yeah, and btw, my girlfriend's computer got here in mint condition, factory sealed in the original Dell Box and whatnot, never opened, brand-spankin' new like Jessica Simpson's chest

Yep, I was going to say Dell (my laptop is great), as you normally can't beat their laptop prices. Couldn't get the desktop as low as the initial one though. But as long as you ignore the massive amount of anti-fanboys (who have never bought a Dell amusingly) then normally they are pretty good (our entire 2500 strong company uses Dell with minimal problems). Just the sheer number of computers they shift adds up to more people who get a duff one. No-one complains about Computer company X because hardly anyone (compared to Dell) buy from them.

I'm getting a new desktop PC soon.

Its going to be my early, but major Christmas present for this year.

Its going to be fully loaded, locked, stocked and with a good extended warranty.

The PC is narrowed down to an emachine and either will be model T6528 or T6532. I'm leaning towards the T6532. And then, when I get it or on purchase...have another gigabyte of memory added. And as well either some ATI Radeon or high level Nvidia 3d graphics card.

The stores that I'm considering for the purchase are CompUSA, Best Buy, or Frys' Electronics.

cheers,

power mousey

Well that PC from Comet is an Emachine, you do know that right? Which basically means it'll last you a year, max!

Why???"

Because he's a power-tool I bought one of the two computers from him (the used one), and I tried e-mailing him but he wouldn't write me back... ever. After I got the computer, I left him positive feedback, but said that "communication left something to be desired" because he NEVER responded to any of my multiple e-mails. A few weeks later, he still hadn't left ME feedback, so I wrote an e-mail to him asking when he might do it. I wasn't rude or nasty in any way. So then he turns around screaming at me saying "you'll get feedback when I'm good and ready jerk." So I left a follow up to the feedback I originally left him, warning people that he's got a nasty attitude, and then wham, he leaves me negative feedback a week later. He isn't worth buying crap from... you're much better off buying from TroyHybrid... easily the best seller on EBay that I've run into. I bought the new Dell from him and it got to my house three days after payment, in perfect mint condition still sealed in the factory box... best seller on there imho
