I was trying to read some guitar tabs(please tell me someone here plays) but I didn't have a guitar handy so I was trying to think of the rhythem in my head and just though, it would be great if there was something that could just play this

so thats my idea a tab reader, but of course normal tab format does not have the info for it to be played without listening to the song which actually is a secondary idea

having a tab format that indicates the rhythem and such

and then for the tab format it could have like special tag thingy's saying tuning, guitars, and the song parts and then the order and repition

so has anyone seen this anywhere or anything like that?
and anyone think this would be a good idea

Cakewalk. It's a pretty good program for just that (it does other stuff, too)

http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php

I use that not only for tabs, but composing, and making .midi files as well =)

neither of them are free; guitar-pro makes you write stuff in a special format plus its not free(you have to buy it to view the tab wtf)

and cakewalk i didn't think supported guitar much less reading tabs

Ah. Well maybe if you're specific about that kind of thing in your post, we would know. Guitar Pro is definitely worth the money, though.

Have fun with this then.

Right now I'm tabbing out a part of one of my favorite songs I know onto Power Tab to test it out, as I've never seen it before (it rocks, but I can't seem to figure a few things out, I'll get it eventually). So far though, Guitar Pro is extremely so much easier because just about everything is on a mini toolbar, but I'll have to keep going with it.

Not only does Cakewalk Guitar Studio support live (non-midi) guitar, but it also does tabs. You can play along with tabs and it will correct you when you're wrong, and it will write tabs based on what you're playing on guitar (or full sheet music if you prefer). A bit pricey, but I love it Then again, it was a gift and I probably wouldn't pay that much for software I wouldn't use constantly But it's a nifty program at any rate, lol

G7 does the same thing =) (and replays tabs in full soundfonted goodness, too =) ) Sibelius makes the best products for music, haha.

Power Tab is weak in so many areas I've noticed that I can't even properly tab a complex song without redoing a bunch of parts over and over. This could take a while to master, but for a freebie program, its great. G7 and Guitar Pro are the ONLY two products for tabbing that I havent come to hate, and it seems that Power Tab has something of a chance of joining their ranks. Wouldn't use it when I have better software, but if in need of a freebie, this will probably be my recommendation.

Definitely. Guitar pro is awesome. It's far superior to power tabs, you can add loads of different instruments to your music. Power tabs doesn't even support drums. It also imports midi files (I've had varying degrees of success with that, though).

hmmm so really the best freebie then is powertabs

I'll try that sometime
the thing that annoys me about guitar pro tabs is that on their website the guitar pro tabs you have to buy guitar pro to view which is stupid, they should have some sort of plain text version convertor that is optional(ive missed many tabs thanks to that)
