Yuw,

Just want to ask what darkbasic version is the best for me.
I basicaly want to use it for a school project:

I made a fully working domotics system for a school project, using a 3d model and a real working model to show to the jury.
I want to rebuild the whole system so i can integrate it in our house. It would be cool tho

Can darkbasic classic or pro control a serial, usb and the parallel port.
Example: I have a switch on the 3d model. When it has been triggered, it must send a signal to my serial port. My domotics system will receive it and trigger a contactor (for those who don't know a contactor - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contactor)
Also when i press an extern button, the darkbasic program will receive the signal, and has to read it out.

Can this be done?

Here are some pics of my old domotics system

This project only works on a windows 98 system. Ofcourse it must work onto a XP system too. Maybe with darkbasic

It will be powered with my own made hardware and controlled with a chungwha PPT Touch screen. Where i put a 3D model of my house on it. With the touchscreen i can select a room and view if the lights are on/off, control the radio, thermostat, etc.

Though those pic's and the idea itself look absolutely amazing (if you modelled that house yourself, excellent job), Im pretty sure DBP cant handle event triggers outside of the DBP app itself, atleast not without the use of a few third party dlls/plugins (though if you provided a detailed design doc and info about what you're trying to acocmplish, Im sure someone would attempt to throw together a dll for you).

What did you use to program your previous Domotics system? You might also want to have a look at Basic Stamp (parallax.com for more info), it's a version of Basic directed towards robotics, but can be maniuplated to do a lot of other things, possibly like what you're talking about.

Either way goodluck, it looks like a fun project.

Previously, i made a program in VisualBasic 6 to control everything.
I used a network plugin so my program worked as server aswel. The 3 model was designed with Unreal editor so it could run with the unreal tournament engine.
I wrote a network mod script for unreal tournament so i could connect with my visual basic program and send commands.

I made my own hardware using Philips 74HC/HCT4514 Decoders. (To turn 4 outputs into 16 outputs.

Here is a screenshot of the operation program

Sorry its dutch

Buttons @ the left:
First button: Garden Control
2nd button: House Control
3th button: Alarm control

Buttons @ the middle:
First button: Kitchen
2nd button: Childs room
3th button: Ventilation
4th Button: Sleep chamber

I know basic stamp. But i cannot use it with my touchscreen

And sure ill give a doc with all details. asap

I made a small document with some project details.

See -->

This project will take a while. If i'm able to control the ports, it would be a giant step already
