I'm getting some computer parts soon so I can upgrade my peice-o-junk computer and I need someone to confirm that I'm on the right track because I haven't done this before! And I also have a question about CAS Latency. With CAS Latency, is bigger better? What should I get? 2, 2.5 or 3? And what about voltage? And is there a certian RAM manufacturer that you recommend?

Here is the list of parts i'm getting. Let me know if there are any compatability problems.

Asus A8N5X nForce4
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2000MHz 2.2GHz with HT and 64bit support
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800XT Graphics Card
DDR SDRAM 512MB

Two more questions... should i find a motherboard that supports DDR2? I can't find one... do all motherboards support that? And my second question is do I need a bigger power supply than 400W?

Thanks for all your help!

The lower the latency the better. But if you are getting DDR2 800 or something around that you cant get a lower latency of 3 because of the high FSB frequency. But 2-2.5 is good for DDR400 but DDR2800 or higher you should be trying for 2.5 but 3 is fine.

And a 400watt PSU bight be a little to weak for the x1800xt. Whop makes the PSU?

thanks for your help. so I guess I'll buy some DDR 400 with 2 latency. How would a 500W powersupply hold up?

A 500 watt should hold up just fine as long as it is from a good company. Who is it by? And btw, if your overclocking I would recommend getting higher then ddr400 so you have headroom for overclocking without ur slower RAM holding you back. And does ur motherboard support dual channel ram because then you should get DDR2-800.

Don't know, haven't bought a 500W yet. Is there a company you recommend? No, it doesn't support DDR2, but after reading this post

it doesn't look like DDR2 is up to all it's cracked up to be yet.

no that is DDR2 support from AM2 CPU's. DDR2 is very good. That is something different. DDR2 performs only around 1-2% better but for no extra money.

Seasonic and FSB make some of the best PSU's out there for a decent chunk of change though.

I don't think I'll be investing in DDR2 yet, mainly because the only boards for them yet aren't what I'm looking for.

I don't want to spend more than $80 on one, any cheaper but equally as good companies?
