I assume you meant to say a network hub.
I'm also guessing you know NOT to use crossover cables with hubs, routers, or switches. In case you don't here's why:
If you connect the computers to a hub using crossover cables, the network will almost certainly not work. (a small number of hubs can detect the correct configuration or allow you to change it.)
There are 2 main kinds of CATV cables, straight (a.k.a. patch) cables and crossover cables. The crossover cables have wires switched around to match up the correct signals across the computers. As CR stated, a hub crosses the signals for you, so by using a crossover cable with a hub, you will not have the correct wiring.
Usually the plugs on the end are transparent. If yours are, look at the sequence of color codes on both ends. If the sequence is the same, you have a straight-wired cable. If the sequence is out of order in the middle, you have a crossover cable.
